hms, how many candidates do you think you'll select before voting begins?

i'm just curious because i think you need to keep the overall number relatively low. let's say you have 4 spots to fill. i'd only put up 2 candidates per spot for a total of 8 candidates. if you put up a poll with too many options it's going to dilute the voting pool.

What is this? How does one advance in forum staff? Moving from managing subforums to.. being able to create polls? Haha

I have left most of the sections of staff as of about 2 month ago. I felt that it was necessary to do proper assessment for quality assurance. I would have been too overly biased, as I was just involved in everything.

As for the forums, I took over it months ago, I am just trying to get someone in place to do the work, since literally no one was actually moderating outside of 4 or 5 people.

well if you were truly worried about being biased you should have advertised for help and appointed a long standing person as QA mod preferably one that was staff years ago and has proven their integrity.

there shouldn't be a lot of moderation that needs to be done really. Those 4 or 5 ppl seem to be doing fine as i've not witnessed loads of porn / racism etc ... indeed the only thing i've noticed really is that some indulge in grudges to delete posts hand out warnings etc and generaly they have been the TW staff ppl brought in over the years rather than forum staff only ppl.

free up the polls for everyone and get rid of youtube sigs, simple

i would hardly call most of these guys anonymous, most of the people who asked to be put on the ballot are people who have been around for years and years, and i would wager we all know them pretty well. some may be more anonymous than others, zeebu for instance, but just because i dont know much about his personal life, doesn't mean i don't know about his personality, and he's not the kind of dude who would, say, go on a power trip or anything.

as for the positions themselves, what would be hard to understand? they browse the forums and use discretion to moderate threads. if anything, what makes the position "authoritative" is the actual rules list, which sometimes provides a convenient excuse for abuse of power (for instance, using the broken tables/leeching clause to ban someone)

most of these people applying for the position are people who have been active members in the forum community itself, some have participated as both members of the game as well as staff. most of them have, at one time or another, been banned, not always justly. ilyaz, zeebu, jason, gran guerrero, and adman would all make great mods, the only problem here is choosing which one or which few. srsly just mod them all. or we could re-hire dangergirl

again i've no idea why it seems you've got your fingers in all the pies ?? i mean what aspect of TW have you not attached your name to ? inventing the title quality assurance mod for yourself, Forums, BWC, TWL ... perhaps a little less power to one person and better delegation of responsibilities is in order

I say we just have a few designated guys the community knows and don't make a big deal out of it. Just demote yourself HMS, and promote the regular bunch of dudes like Wark, Jason, PD, etc, etc, in fact I can be the political opposite of wark to balance things out.

i see ara is back at it, arbitrarily closing the hms thread, seemingly because he just felt like it. ara needs to be pulled away from the forums entirely. he doesn't have enough involvement here to have any sort of true connection with the forum community, and it adversely affects his ability to moderate these here parts of the interweb.

as has already been said, get some of the forum regulars to help run the show, and all will be well.
