Changes to Public Arena coming June 10th

Please consider changing the dueling areas as they have been the same for years. Consider enlarging WB dueling areas - possibly making them square, with walls instead of asteroids as an outer barrier - there is a lot of space at the bottom of the map that could be used for bigger, square WB dueling areas. Jav dueling area needs a change of scenery.

I am personally not a fan of pub money, but people like to collect it. I like dueling with it. The only way pub money would ever be fair is to reset it with every 2 week reset. You could bring back some of the more powerful !buys and everyone would start out on equal playing field.

I would consider resetting pub money for the Steam launch if you really expect an influx of new players. People seem to be concerned no one will stay because veterans have an advantage in skill and in !buy'ing power. If starting "new" on Steam brings us more players then everyone should start new.

People will base if others start to get involved in basing or if they see a game has been going on for 10 minutes. As annoying as small weasel is, it is good for extending games and getting people to join in. It's also anti base lev - base lev is the quickest way to make a team quit, especially one you can't get to because half your team is playing vs. a full team. I usually don't care about ship changes, but I believe for the current amount of players, small weasel is the way to go for now.

Lev terrs would also work with small weasels. I miss that added level of challenge to basing with a skilled lev terr. I feel like they took away all the shots from roof and outer base.

I can't believe the weasel is not small anymore.

It is an aggravation in Pub and looking like the huge thing it is now its movement is predictable. It's no fun anymore to try and aim at in a warbird.
Weasels can go through the little gaps its awesome thats sometimes how they escape if you try get them....
I feel for all the players that mastered weasel. There are a lot of really awesome ship 6's that have had their ship altered beyond belief.


Really this is the only change I can put my finger on that I'd prefer reverted over a lengthy number of updates and iterations to pub. It cannot be right when certain players are this incensed to the loss of our beloved ship, and I'm not even an X. Changing this ship erodes the personality of the game.
Even with new player concerns, fundamentally newbies like the little ship and find it interesting, they always ask about it. Or did. As myself being little pls bring back little ship ty.

Maybe we could use ship 9... 75k spacebux unlocks ship 9: a warbird in a cooler skin, changes each season (ideas like this shouldn't b harmful but could give players something to work for in pub).

I don't no if ship 9 can be used but if so... Bring the nightwasp but u have to unlock it from getting x amount of flagroom kills or high amount of spacebux...

I also think spacebux should be reset prior to 3rd of July to tempt new players to try be the richest otherwise they won't even try if they see everyone else on 500k each (with no reset)... That's if they get as far as !richest command .

Restart Tourney already... And start it on the 3rd of July... Make sure people host the best events on the day. If loads of players are going to show this day- at least show off this game as much as possible... Have new player squads ready to grab all them newbies.

Ship 9 as Nightwasp will be included. After someone sends us a new server and client which allows it that is.

A pubbux reset is unlikely atm, as too much else is on the list and I fear when we do that right before start, we would have way too many hurt feelings on players to make this a friendly place for newbies. However, it is possible that pubbux will temporarily be deactivated, if the influx of players becomes too great for our bots to handle. But that is more of an emergency plan than a goal.

As for tourny, it is on the list of stuff to revive. Along with all the events, which require a lot of players. How much of that can safely work we have to find out, same problem as above. We just don't want to throw a lot of money on extra server capacities before we know we really need that.

Well I think at this point you're either all in or you're all out. Are you focused on the new players or are you more concerned with the 100 you currently have? Even if you can attract new players you have to get them to stay.

To me it feels like what has been added has been cancelled out by what has been taken away and nothing has changed in 15 years. There is nothing drastic, there is no outside of the box thinking. People left because nothing changed and this game got old.

But no matter what you do, or what changes you make, the only thing that will save this game is more full pubs.

This is the problem with this game. That's the most creative we can get. Tile sets. Santa in a chimney on roof for 2 weeks and pumpkins for asteroids. "Don't alter the inside of the map... after 15 years I've finally mastered all the shots, we can't change it now."

Doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

I think #2 in saving this game is changing that mindset. The idea that change is bad. The idea that we have to do what we've always done.

Well if staff wanted it, pub could be the same but there was incentive to play pub alot (for those bored of playing pub for the sake of it)- this doesn't change the game like what people think.

If change was bad then why are old games like wow and runescape constantly polling out ideas and changing the content? Answer because change can be good if they were thought out carefully and focuses on what people want to see... It maintains the interest in old players and at the same time makes things more fun\ competitive overall...

When they added new content (twd) to the game was this change bad? Ofc not... Actually this was an amazing idea.

Problem is, we don't have alot of coders and we don't have staff who like change even if it would improve pub dramatically... Oh well

The ship settings have been screwed with for so long and without notice that I've forgotten what used to be and what didn't use to be.

Sharks really had x-radar until June? And then it was restored? Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember something like that.

That kind of thinking is what's destroying the game. "It's been like this a long time so we don't want to change anything." Yeah, well, the world has changed, so you have to change too. Ban levi feeders. Six months is a good time. You cripple private LTing at the same time, since it's usually the asswipe future terr of that LT that's feeding the levi.

Oh yeah, and levis shouldn't be able to buy anything until they have 20 bounty. This prevents them from going to safe, staying just outside it to get greens until 15 and buying the rest.

I think it's worth repeating that the pub bux shouldn't have been put in the game in the first place as they serve no purpose except to distort the game. I laugh at all the chumps who got used to spamming their ?buy macros and now can't cope with tough situations as their crutch is gone and they have to relearn how to play without it.

Sharks shouldn't be able to buy repels out of safe. Nothing should be buyable out of safe. When you run out of repels, you get greens.

Yes, this is necessary. The worst are terrs who go afk and waste everybody's time. Make the safe zone time limit 5 or 10 minutes at most, and definitely spec players who get killed twice without moving or firing, unless they're new.

On an unrelated note, let's get rid of money bonuses for claiming the flag close to the round end. There are pieces of shit who don't get the flag when they should so they can get a bigger bonus later. There is absolutely no reason to reward players for getting the flag, since that's the point of the game anyway. There should still be a notice of who got it, and the INCONCEIVABLE message, which, by the way, has been spelled wrong in-game for at least 13 years now. Also, bring back the INCONCEIVABLE soundbite. Why was that removed? Copyright complaint? Until you get one, leave it in.

Oh yeah, why was the techno song %100 removed? Put it back.

How can I open the .wa2 files in the "sound" folder? Before I was able to rename the files to .mp3 but now I can't. Maybe they were .wmv before.

Since bkgmjo is keeping track, I want the small weasel from before, but it shouldn't start with a rocket and a repel - those have to be bought (in safe) or greened, I like that ?buying is gone, I don't understand why the asteroids were changed in the first place, and I don't think I got any answer when I asked back when they were first changed (probably because...oh, right...my answer above), and I don't like staff (except for you - even though it turns out you're not actually German...</3)
