Who really gives a crap about old players.. They log on once a week, typically to chat. Old inactive players should not be a factor in trying to get the zone more active.

Actually its the people who log on "once a week" who keep this game going. In order to sustain the current population of subspace, its been estimated around 20,000 people play at least once a week. To keep a constant population requires alot of casual players in a game like this, the hardcore who logon for hours on end are a minority.

The one thing we don't want to do is discourage "causal play" of this game. Anything that does this will damage our population.

The big strength of Continuum is you can logon for 30mins a week and enjoy the game. Unlike crappy games like WoW which are massive time sinks.

these old and inactive vets aren't going to magically band together and form new squads, they are just gonna disappear.

hence, no new competitive squads, and an even further diminished playerbase.

Argh this forced me to come back to this horrible forum to make a post.

How do you expect a squad to be able to go for 3 leagues if the cap is set at 35 or even 40? Look at the squads that had successful runs in several leagues this year: Dice, Thunder, Mad. If it was possible to be successful to make a serious run at more than one league then those squads would have been smaller. There aren't that many good 3 league players left anymore so squads has to have a separate jav, warbird and base division with the exception of those who can still play more than one league on top level.

Also squads like Dice, Disoblige and Thunder has a long history, and tons of players that has been involved in the squads over the years. Many of these players are very inactive, but they still log on once in a while to play a TWD game with their old squad. Would they bother to join a new squad that has to make sure everyone on the squad is active? FUCK NO
These players would simply not bother anymore and we would lose a substantial amount of old vets to gain nothing.

In this idiotic desperate attempt to create more squads you're just going to do even more damage to the squads that are still living on.

Whoever thought of this should be ashamed of their lack of insight.

Da1 and Bram if this gets through then you better get active, we can't afford to have inactive people on the roster anymore. It doesn't matter if you are an important part of Disoblige as a whole, because some dipshit wants to make sure that we can't have any inactive people rostered anymore.

Once again, why should we be concerned about "old vet" that players play "every once and a while." The real question is, what do we gain by tending to their needs!?!? NOTHHHIIIIIIINNNNGG.... Roster caps will create more squads and in turn create more competition. End of story..

i don't think there's much reason to not have on. if you got these "squad veterans" that never play, there's really no point in having them. i had to cut a few of my own last night. if they play once a month, then axing them won't really make a big difference. they dont have time to play. they're better off playing elim.

a 40 player cap wouldn't be bad. people might actually care to improve to keep their roster spot on the better squads or something. i think it would be interesting to try at least for a month or 2

Although I think TWL cap should be the one to change and have different caps for different types of squads, I could see a 40 player cap for TWD..but its still annoying people against "no limit" not expressing their opinions, your vote really isnt a secret, your not voting for the president :wub:

Completely agree with Draft here. We don't have a very large player base anymore anyhow, but maybe limiting the super excessive squads (GiantTiger from like 2 years ago comes to mind, like 160 rostered) would make some new squads and create competition. Squads like Disoblige, Dice, Thunder, etc that play 3 leagues and have a history in this zone are only going to be hurt by this roster limit BS, as will the zone. Sure Diso's roster is going to be 50ish, with only about 20-30 active people most likely, but those other 20-30 people will come on occasionally just to hang out and bullshit with old friends and possibly play a game from time to time, limit it so those kind of people can't be rostered anymore and they're simply going to leave the game. STUUUUUUUUUUUUPID IDEA.

I dont even need to add anything to my first post, the people against the cap already said everything why this shouldnt be done and im waiting to see more people (from these 54 people so far) atleast give good arguments on why it should be done. Might said it all..this is getting fishy..and the most comic part of this is that people with a little bit of sense would atleast click the fucking 40 cap and not the 35 cap one..voting just for the sake of voting is bullshit, so if its going to be like this im with you Might. Ask players like aarbear, rogue status, aruba, gta, what would happen if there was a roster cap. I always, ALWAYS recruit people in the offseason that arent great players, and let them catch on to our teaming and how real players play with each other. Otherwise no one would advance in this game

the time limit and advertising for this poll is wholly inadequate ... given not many use the forums or look up TWD site ... 5 days ? The less actives that would be against this probably haven't even logged in in that time, why not run it over the entire TWL with a zoner on entering any TWD arena if you are truely interested in peoples opinions.


looking at numbers and going this frees up x players is not a good idea like Doc Flabby says... you could easily cut the Anti-Scrub roster in half and create ZERO players for any other squads. I'm on that squad and that's a fact and i'm sure most other squads that have larger rosters would be similar if they actually looked at them in detail.

the population decline isn't related to TWD limits, play with a harsher TWL limit if you like but TWD should be there for people who only want to play a coupl of times a month and hang out with old freinds ... new squads won't appeal to them neither would they benifit from having them on their roster the only ones that do are big rosters with a solid core and lots of these ppl who can float in and out as they please.

I like what veetee has said. Sounds legit to me. Also, veetee, I think I also suggested a similar idea to yours some time ago. Here it is again (its #2),

1) I remember that in elim there used to be a feature. If PLAYER-A kills PLAYER-B i think 3 times in a row, the bot would auto-message in green text saying 'PLAYER A is dominating PLAYER-B!'. Bring this feature back. Maybe modify it a little. In order to prevent hunting, change it so it only says this msg if PLAYER-A kills PLAYER-B...lets say 4 times in that round (not necessarily in a row...or else players will start hunting). This feature was pretty sick. It helps improve the game's intensity.

2) This idea may take some work to implement. Is it possible to run elim with say teams of 2 or 3. Essentially in the same ?go elim arena...have a game option of a 2-player team game. Might want to make it only available if there are 10+ players in. You can either let the players choose their teams or let it randomize it. The same thing could be done in the baseelim map. I know ?go tourny exists but that shit is just dead now. Even on the weekends its very unpopular. This idea will help improve teaming amongst individuals, something many players lack and something which separates the vets from the avg. players.
