I think that idea is not that great, Jason -- the laggy sharks that already can bomb relatively easily through cram would get even a bigger advantage with their lag if that were to be implented. :fear:

imo, thor is a terrible idea because of lag. look at how often a laggy shark can lob a bomb through reps. now allow that bomb to travel through walls as well as reps. that's asking for trouble.
no one (except for cres who didn't respond seriously) mentioned what they thought of my idea to give the sharks current bomb a slight bit of forward acceleration. what'choo think?

Someone mentioned Thors earlier - this is a great idea. I can totally see this being used and it would definitely bring more fun to both the sharks AND everyone else. It's a completely new element to basing and it's not overpowered in the slightest because there's two other sharks. Combine the sharks with thors and a jav and you have one hell of a competitive team!
Thors being greenable of course, sharks should not start out with them, that would be overpowered. The thrust of the Thor should be the same as its bombs.
The reason I wouldn't totally agree with them having bullets is because, well it's boring too. We hardly ever have any energy as it is. Getting a thor thru to the enemy would be pretty difficult considering the constant reps, especially during a cram - and it would add more challenge especially with a jav.
I say we try it out

Another thought regarding this issue, having shrap influences mining/bombing decisions for many sharks. Removing shrap would likely reduce the amount of mining/bombing by many sharks (‘I wont lay this somewhat risky mine unless it is loaded with shrap’).
Given this, I would think that it would be mandatory to increase other aggressive attributes so that shark doesn’t become a completely neutered defensive ship.
And luck? isn't luck the residue of skill?

he's not talking about aiming shrap turb, you just conserve energy and bomb more often so you increase your chances of getting the terr with shrap. Or, you bomb at walls that aren't closed in so you have space for shrapnel to spread.
i don't think there is any other real technique to it. It's still 99.9% luck.

Shark sometime? I have sharked more games than you can imagine, whether I like it or not. :fear:Originally posted by the_paul View PostShark sometime, you get the hang of it.
You are joking, right?Originally posted by the_paul View PostOf course theres luck involved, but that doesnt mean its all luck.
Shrapnel is all about luck, whether you green yourself 5 shraps and mine 3 times to the wall, it would still be all about luck where they fly to.
I feel sorry for a team if I manage to get a TeK with shrapnel when the enemy is controlling the base and don't find it the least bit of entertaining. It's not an earned kill.
But hey, that's just me. Sharks still have a bomb that they can do 5-fers with and mines, and you could add something extra if you guys REALLY FIND IT THAT FUCKING IMPORTANT TO HAVE RANDOM SHRAP.
grr. time to wake up, coffee!

Hurr! Durr!Originally posted by Ephemeral View Postany ideas on how to keep sharking fun?
If shark really needs to made "more fun to play with" then here is some ideas to satisfy your needs..
LV2 BULLETS
You heard me!
I am talking about those yellow bullets fired by lancaster that have a fixed damage of ~1040. Of course sharks would not be able to fire the bullets as fast as lancasters, but there should be at least some bullet speed (at least more than the bombs have, which is non-existant and completely relies on sharks speed when fired) and firing them should take around 500 energy.
DEGRADED SHRAPNEL WITH FIXED DAMAGE
Another idea to at least eliminate some of the random factor. Changing the shrapnel to fixed damage of ~1300 would prevent terriers with full energy from dying, but it would be enough to deal damage and kill most players.
PROXIMITY
You could add a small proximity radius to sharks bombs and mines, not a big one though -- else it just gets annoying to even try to fire a bomb.
BRICK
How about adding a two or three tiles long brick that lasts for 0.3 - 0.6 seconds? It could be used to warp enemy players, such as sharks, terriers or spiders -- thus cripple the enemy team even more -- or simply just give a small protection to your team to save them from a couple of bullets.
There's some ideas, and I still hate shrapnel more than repped bursts as those can at least be dodged -- and so can normal burst.

this crops up everynow and then and i'm totally against it.
shrap is fun, yes it is quite random in nature but it's still tactical. For me there is not alot of fun to shark ship, i might be a crap shark but i never wanted to shark but every game needs 4. The blocks where removed from under to try and make basing more fun and cram a weaker, everyone knows about shrap it's not like it was just brought in and i think it's removal would lessen the fun and even some of the tactics from sharking.
i'd rather be killed by a shrap than lagmined by a rushing shark you see eat 3 bullets and still can thrust and mine etc
Something i do find random is burst length, this time could be shortened to make it more all out offensive or defensive and not fly around base so much. Before anyone goes lol you just cant dodge bursts n00b (which is true haha) my thinking is more repped bursts can get deviated a hell of alot on sharks screen compared to terrs. etc ...
and thats the point, the worst most random thing about this game is the lag :P but we just gotta live with that.

Obviously a bad idea if you like to shark. Repping 10,000 times is boring, taking out the enemy terrier with a random shrap is one of the few fun things that breaks the boredom.
But I'd be for it if sharks could green a Thor every now and again.
Turb, if you take this away (or cripple it) , any ideas on how to keep sharking fun?

It's just a tactical choice you have to make as a basing team. Either you kill the sharks in fr and prevent them from shrapmining (but helping their timing) or you choose to fuck up the timing but face the risk of getting shraps.

Don't touch shrap, its one of the very few fun things about sharking. And there is an art to it, real talk.
