Let me just say that the overall skill level has not, to my experience, increased one bit. People come and go, people get better, people get worse. Playing against top squads feels and looks exactly the same as it did say 5 years ago. Sure things were different back when the server was in Finland and back when there was no res cap, but the res cap was put in in 2000 or 2001 wasn't it? That's a long time ago.

Now what would make people assume that squads such as Siege and Elusive (someone also mentioned Rampage) were better in terms of skill as some of today's powerhouses? One thing, the sheer amount of time and practice they spent on improving their games. Siege was in action for what, 4 seasons? Do you have any idea what sort of cohesion and synchronization you can create between a team whose key players were mostly the same during that whole time as well? I bet Elusive had the same sort of thing before Siege. I don't know why Rampage was even mentioned as I wouldn't compare it to these squads but we had a lot of people in Rampage who were accustomed to playing with each other from before, thus making teamplay easily acquired.

I'd say that there's practically no difference with the 'skill' levels of top players these days and the top players of any past era. Some squads' teamplaying has just been so good and they have done so well that they have become to be known as 'powerhouses'.

Dont you all just hate these kind of vets. "Oh, im so leet, even though i cant own you today i used to own you, you cant ever be better then me, cuz i owned years ago" Well fu!
The overall skill level is still improving, slow but still! Teaming however is improving bigtime! You vets are only making excuses for your lack of skills! Skills from the past dont mean anything. Own me today and i will respect you.

Res cap makes a INSANELY HUGE (just like my capital letters) difference. It's just plan stupid to think otherwise. Just take a look in Prem if you want to see a modern comparison. Almost every single top player has 1600x1200 or better. So you can attribute your so called (pre-res cap) "skill" to deep pockets.
