Loans
If a potentially good squad is struggling for the last place in the league, i.e. Disoblige are fighting with Bohemians for the last place in TWLB, or a player isn’t getting enough games and wants some practice then some players could join a squad on loan for a set period. For example, Pearl Jam of Pallies (haha, Pallies isn’t in the dictionary on Word where I made my first draft of this) (neither is haha) and Kuukunen of Whiterabbits could join Bohemians for a week or so to help them get into Bohemians and put the pressure on Disoblige. However, entire squads could migrate so to stop this:
A squad can only have 2 players in on loan at once
A squad can only loan in 6 people in 3 months/one season
Captains and assistants can't leave on loan
A captain would log into the TWD site, click a player, click request to loan and enter a time period (lets say the maximum is 14 days). The other captain would log in and click ‘accept’. The rules would have to be tight so that players in on loan wouldn’t drastically alter a squads performance (i.e. turn the squad into world-beaters) but still make a difference. This would add interest and excitement into the leagues. Of course the player on loan wouldn't be able to play for his original squad while on loan.
Transfers
I took the day school to prepare myself for an exam and spent all day thinking up this. Well done me. I was thinking of a way to stop people squad hopping and create stability. As soon as a squad goes through a bad run of results people leave and join another squad, and that squad dissolves. Likewise if one person is carrying that squad and they leave then the squad goes through a sticky patch and dissolves. This is fine as squads will always be formed to replace them but they will start on 1000 points and wont challenge for the top honours that could soon hit 4000 points until a few months, by then everyone would have left for lack of ambition. Eventually you are left with 5 or 6 really good squads and a huge gulf in class between the ones below. There has to be a sense of stability so that the same squads are left at the end of the season and there isn’t a gap between 6th and 7th place so the championship is much more open.
To stop this you have to stop people leaving to eagerly, and to do this you have to hit squads where it hurts, in the wallet (or the points total to be precise). A squad has to buy a player from another squad using some of the points it has amassed. For example, Disoblige have 3,000 points and Camisade have 2,000. Diso buy Pasco for 500 points and both squads have 2,500 points. The fees have to be calculated automatically. If the fees were to be negotiated between two captains then over a period of time the prices would just escalate. (If Dai Shan is worth 500pts then Pearl Jam is worth 650pts. OMG! NEVER! If Pearl Jam is worth 650pts Nuudeli has to be worth at least 900pts… etc…). In the end no transfers would take place as no one could afford them.
Of course squads could sell all of their players and get 10,000 points and win TWD. It is unfair to say you can only buy/sell X amount of players in a season as you can't stop people from participating in the league. However, as TWD never ends, due to the points system as soon as this squad plays its next match (which it stands to lose as it has no players) it will also lose a hell of a lot of points, and therefore have no points or players. Damn I’m good. The next question is what league do the points get deducted from? The squads wont be allowed to chose as Dekai would just take all of its points from TWDD which it doesn’t give a toss about. The points would have to be taken from each league equally. For example, if a squad spends 300pts then 100 is taken from each league and given to the receiving squad in the same fashion. This would partially stop squads selling their way to the top as if a squad sells 3,000pts worth of talent only 1,000pts gets added to one leagues total. The real question is will the player I buy earn me more points than he cost me? The fees would have to be large enough to make a significant change though.
So how would the fees be calculated? Is a good baser more expensive than a good dueller? Is a terrier more valuable than a spider? The value of a player would have to be a reflection of his past TWD record, as negotiated values would just be a reflection of his reputation. The value would be something like this: A player’s TWDD ratio + a player’s TWJD ratio + their basing ratio. The basing ratio would be something like: WB ratio (terr kills count as 2 or 1.5) + Jav ratio (tk’s not counted) + Spider ratio – Terrier deaths + Lancaster ratio + Shark kills (not tk’s). This doesn’t do the shark justice as its game is all about repels, so someone like Miau’s ratio would be significantly lower, its up to you to snap up a bargain! Of course people looking for a transfer will play badly to lower their ratio, but would you want to buy a potential liability or someone with a ratio as bad as theirs? Another factor not considered in the value is personality, but that would be taken into consideration by the buying captain.
This scheme would only be implemented for TWD as the proper league would be TWL, but it would make it more interesting getting more people talking about it, increasing the amount of games/reducing no shows, create more stability due to less squad changes and make the competition more open as there would be two ways of getting points, reducing the gaps between squads in the table. What would your value be?
Let me know what you think of the ideas.
