gots so info, some more iteration, some stuff and thought a new thread would be good
I have two important announcements, so if you want to skip all of the rest of the bs scroll down past the dotted line.
So, looking back on the other thread, and gauging from the general chatter amongst TW players, it seems like a significant majority wishes to have the res cap'd at 1680, or no cap at all. In the other res thread, out of the 30-40 people who posted in it, i think only about 3 people were outright against allowing resolution above 1280 or 1400 x 900: kthx, ph (maybe?), and darkmoor. there was some argument about 1280 vs 1400, but it was without the context of allowing even greater resolutions.
I would again like to go over the advantages of a 1680 res cap, because it would completely kick ass. I am focusing on the implications for TWLD. I think 1680 res in 5v5 javs has similar benefits as 5v5 wb, however javs are not affected as significantly given the nature of the game. Basing even less so. 1680 does a lot to improve the 5v5 WB game. It greatly reduces strays. You can simply see stray bullets better. A very significant amount of kills in TWLD are a result of luck straying. Simply put, less strays means there is less luck involved, meaning there is more emphasis on skill. Greater visibility also means improved team work. When you can see teammates better without having to glance at the dots on the map, there will be more emphasis on team work. You are able to cover for each other better. You are able to see if your teammates are being rush better. More team work increases the degree of competitiveness, resulting in a better league. In relation to better team work means less reliance on bum rushing. A lot of people play in a style such that they rely on rushing quickly into your screen (and theirs as well) and shooting quickly, then backing away if they miss. This puts less emphasis on team play and more on solo. I think the further we can pull away from making 5v5 wbs feeling like 1v1 dueling at times while instead increasing the quality of team play, the greater and more skillful the league becomes. 1680 resolution requires more strategy to be involved in a rush attack, thereby increasing team play.
As far as I can see, the only positive function of 1280 res is to "level the playing field". And this is done by sacrificing the quality of play. 1280 offers nothing to the quality of 5v5 gameplay, it only decreases it. How many games can you think of that create hardware caps which stifle competition? In fact, TW is the only zone i can think of within Continuum itself which practices this. what if fps players werent allowed to use laser mouses cause some people only had ball mouses? IT WOULD BE dumb NUTZZZ. thats a terrible example, somebody think of a better one for me. Anyways, I understand monitors and resolution with this game are their own unique situation, and the analogies wont always represent the problem fully, but its still something to consider. Plus, a lot of people were able to get 1920+ res 8 years ago, which is why Dock forced the res cap upon the zone in the first place. we are nearing the year 2010, i dont think it is a lot to ask with 1680 res. I bet a lot of people could find a used monitor for $20 that could support 1680, but really, it shouldn't matter too much either way. Having good hardware is the nature of gaming, ESPECIALLY when placing hardware caps decreases the skill and competitiveness of a league. Also, somebody with 1280 res can still easily dominate somebody with 1680 if they are more skillful.
Last, I'd like to point out that its usually an uphill battle when trying to change something already in place. People are just more comfortable with what is already in their routine, change is more difficult. But I think most anybody will back me up when i claim that Dock was one of the few people who really wanted a res cap. he was an angry space warrior and found excuses. it was straight nazi. everybody was pissed, but he was the boss and this is a free game so there isn't much the public could do.
So, people of trench war nation, now is the time to make a change. We represent hope, and change, so lets hope for change. Thank you.

ok two things i wanted to announce
1. PH told me that he was willing to propose raising the res cap to the TWL captains and allowing them to vote. I dont know if he is still going to do this, everything is pretty much at his mercy, but as far as I know that is what is going to happen.
2. In light of this, I requested an arena be used for testing. So as of today, WBDUEL has NO res cap (I think, 1680 can be used at least). I would love for people to try out higher resolutions if they can, especially if they have never played 5v5 WB without them.
alright b good everybody, thanks for listening, im down for any good debating or feedback, and i want to make this happen.
