  • Getting invited

I was just wondering how TWLB squads decide to invite people to their squad. I have no idea how to find a serious squad just playing pub base.
    Thanks,
    Valar

Whiterabbit's recruiting process is bizarre and I don't understand it. All I know is I make fun of people who PM me about it.

Edit: ?go base is getting more and more elitist everyday, I doubt he could get a chance to play. I've seen caps wait 10 minutes so he didn't have to pick someone he didn't recognize.

I think thats sad if caps are only picking the so-called elite baseplayers. I say we let more of the newcomers play, and allow them to show what they got. Or lets say after a round has been completed in ?go base. I say its only fair for the ppl who didn't play in that last round--play in the next one. So that way some ofthe new players dont get left out. =]

Anyone who's tried picking new people has been repeatedly burned by people leaving midgame and acting like idiots in general. Makes life very difficult when you're trying to cap a game, and that's a very obvious reason why newcomers are often avoided that too many people seem to overlook. They fuck up games a very large percentage of the time. That's not to say they shouldn't get a shot, but if you're capping you have to watch very carefully whos not afk, who really wants to play, knows how the game flows, and won't bail on you midgame or as soon as you start losing. Not an easy call to make.

I almost always place new players in spider, and ONLY 1 new player. If they leave the game midway or lag out I will rarely pick them again. If they prove to be decent in spid then I might consider putting them in other ships.

Agreed. Guys, can we make more of an effort to give other people a run for their money? I'll do my bit by only assigning captains who I know will do the same

Nearly 99% of new people I've seen beg to get into a ?go base game totally and completely blow, and bring the whole team down. A few days ago some guy named MrBurns begged to get into a game for like an hour until someone picked him. When he finally played, he wouldn't even attach to the terrier. When he died, he would run by himself back into the base. Then, when I told him that he had to attach to the terrier, he attached and just flew around as a turret. He ended up with something like a 25-81 spider record.

Oh, and don't forget that a lot of the time when you pick them, they go "I want to jav!@@12312 JAV ME!!".

I suggest we might take some of the ideas in place in HZ. For a side arena called 'mini' (a shorter, faster game of hockey that many people like to frequent) they have commands like '!next' to get in line to be captain and '!captlist' to see who is captain. Once in, the captain chooses people from spec (much like how we do in ?go base) except the difference is that the captain cannot be someone who played in the game before. So (especially late at night when few people are playing in ?go base), the one or two people in spec will be the captains next game, not only giving them a chance to play, but allowing them to choose their friends or the people they think are nice (perhaps veterans who put them in when no one else would). This would not only promote being nice to those people no one knows, but allowing everyone to play.

I KNOW this is possible to do with our bots (HZ runs on TW's botcore) so it's all a matter of who wants to work on it.

I realize that most people will be really bad the first time they try to base, but a few of us deserve the chance. Thanks to Verthanthi and Fredzz I got into a couple of games and put up good numbers in a spider (61-66, 86-57, 67-45) in my first games. I would think that caps would want to try new players in hopes of finding good ones that they can add to their squad.

Roster lock, so adding squad members is kind of out of style right now.
