A really easy way to start getting picked all the time is to spend a little time watching sharks in base games, talk to people that seem like good sharks, ask for tips and stuff. There's always more shortage of people who want to shark AND are good at it, than any other ship.
Heh, the other day I saw some jackass captain jav himself and go something like 10-25 with an avg kill below 3. Then he switched himself to wb and was less harmful but still basically useless.
Anyway, the man is absolutely right. Any quarter decent shark gets picked as much as they want. I'm really pretty awful, but I get picked a fair amount in shark. The people with actual skill, they get no rest from it unless they beg.

ya that works
Why is there this fixation with playing well in base or being good at it? 1) Everyone has to start eventually otherwise we'll be stuck with the same people and it'll become stale and 2) it's about enjoying yourself, not winning. Unless your name is bram.

You win=More Respect
More Respect=Squad noticing you
Squads noticing you=Getting on Squads
THATS WHY

I got onto all my squads because the people liked me, not because I was good.
EDIT:Okay, I thought of 1 exception, but only 1.
The only TWOTIME TWLJ All-Star and TWLB All-Star who never played a game.

All I'm saying is for me to able to get on a decent squad one day is going to take awhile... seeing as i have no friends on SS and not alot of "Street Credit" as EEKS would say

None of my friends were on the squad and I didn't have any street credit. Also, I'm not very nice and TW Gallery hadn't been made yet and it's not like I'm a piece of ass anyway. When it gets down to it, I'm not exactly sure how I got on the squad. But I did it, and so can you!
I dunno, try kidnapping a squadleader's girlfriend.

Hmm I see a flaw with this and that is winning doesnt get you more respect in go base. Noone cares who wins or loses in go base so if you are on the winning team it doesnt really matter.
Playing good gets you noticed, probablly even moreso when your on the losing team because it shows that you really are a decent player if you do a good job on the losing team.
Therefore: Playing good=Getting on squads
Winning=Nothing (maybe you feeling happy for like 3 seconds)

Anyway, on the topic, yeah, learn to shark if you want to base, it's not a glamorous job like jav, but like jav you do get to tk your spiders all the time. And beez is right about the flexibility, pearl jam, for example, rocks the jav and the shark (and the base lanc).
The downside of being better than
everyone else is that people tend to
assume you're pretentious. -

But nobody really enjoys a one-sided game, whether you're on the winning team or the losing team. Maybe it's not about winning, but there's gotta be competition to keep it fun.

Maybe you shouldn't get so focussed to get in the best squads. When started to play TW i didn't know anyone in the zone either, also played alot of elims and deathmatches (basing was crap then) and wanted to join the "best squads". But i think it's pretty easy to understand that the "best squads" will only recruit players that have some experience in the leaques.
I joined Disoblige when it just got formed and wasn't even decent compared to the top squads from them. (I was the OOhh so famous superstar: Oo-Ivanhoe-oO)
What im trying to say is try to get into a new squad that you think is serious enough to stay or get into the leagues. (or make one yourself) I think it's way more pleasant to help a squad (and yourself) from basicly nothing to one of the top squads there is.
yea.. so that or you just hang around in ?go base for a year and learn to curse SS style and eventually you'll get in a squad with other whiners claiming youre the shit and then dissolve in the middle of the season when you figured out that youre not.....
Sticks and stones may brake my bones,
BUT WHIPS AND CHAINS EXCITE ME!! A friend will bail you outta jail, but a true friend will be sittin right next to ya sayin DAMN THAT WAS FUN!!!!
