I just saw Farenheit 9/11 on the weekend for the first time... pretty good movie.
I have to admit though the whole Bin Laden/George Bush connection thing was stretching the truth somewhat, but the rest of it was pretty good.
As for everything else...
Michael Moore wasn't really a Democrat supporter until very recently. In fact he used to advocate that both the Republicans and the Democrats were bad (much like Ralph Nader), but has lately fallen in with the Democrat crowd. I guess he realized he should support the lesser of two evils or perhaps the Democrats were treating him to a lot of free dinners (although to be fair he's been fat for a while).
And about voting for the Republicans because you're greedy.
That is perhaps the most short-sighted thing I've ever heard of in my life. I'm going to go about this in a very different way than everyone else.
I don't care if you don't care at all about your fellow citizens one bit. I don't care if you think the poor can fend for themselves, and that by you taking more advantage of them you can have a better life. I don't care if you're just that greedy, but perhaps there is more than just a basic dollar value to greed.
I'll use Canada as my example because I live here, and it is the most like the US of any country in the world.
Look at it this way. Because of Conservative policies, things such as healthcare costs are much higher in America than anywhere else in the world. In fact in the past few years the costs have skyrocketed.
In countries with public healthcare, costs overall are less (yes you pay less in taxes for what you get, than what you pay for in insurance premiums in the US. If your work pays for your health insurance, then perhaps they could afford to hire you for MORE money if you had public health care). This is because of simple things such as the pooling of resources, regulation of the amount of money healthcare professionals make (and no PV I don't think you're a doctor so you probably don't care directly about that), and the fact that sometimes private really isn't that much more efficient and public isn't out to make a profit off you.
In Canada we also pay a LOT LESS for drugs. You may have heard about seniors buying drugs from Canada. It's becuase we regulate drug prices. Drug prices for new drugs in the US can be many times the cost in Canada. Again if you ever need to take prescription drugs, they simply cost LESS (meaning cheaper health plans, and cheaper costs to YOU the end user).
Because of more compassinate systems of taxation and welfare, there is less systemic inequality in most other first world countries compared to the US. While you may not care if you're rich, it does change a lot of things. One thing I notice everytime I and my friends or relatives visit the US is the fact that people who are well off life seperated lives from everyone else. They live in gated communites. Not because they all really WANT to, but because they HAVE to if they want to have actual security. Hell my cousin lives on Long Island surrounded by millionaires, and still he's had his car stolen from his driveway (with a Club and alarm) TWICE. I fully believe that kind of stuff is the price you pay for the policies used in America. Not to say Canada is crime free, but it's a hell of a lot better. (*note, more poor people who can't help themselves & less help from everyone else = more people turning to crime*)
Why? Because we don't trod on our poor, and we actually try and help them. They have more ways out then to turn to crime.
I remember visiting different cities in the US, where ghettos are widespread. Where there are parts you really don't want to stop at red lights, and you wouldn't want to walk around there even in the daytime. I live in Toronto, a city of 4.5 million people and yet I never feel worried in my city as much as most places I've been in America aside from resorts and communites where rich people live.
Even if you have no compassion for those who are less well off than you are, perhaps you feel the secondary effects of continually kicking people who are down, and that probably affects your own quality of life.
Do you like to travel? Do you enjoy the increased hostility that all Americans enjoy around the world largely because of the policies of Bush?
Perhaps you like watching TV. Do you appreciate the fact that Republicans in catering to big business under the guise of 'less big government' have tried repeatedly to remove regulations concerning media ownership, thereby reducing the amount of companies that basically control what you read, watch and listen to?
How about rights? While it is duly noted that most senators voted for the Patriot Act, do you enjoy the fact that the current administration wants to make it even stronger while many Republicans and Democrats alike want the original to be revised to protect more rights? Are you aware that at anytime for any reason and without any warrants you can be arrested indefinately without trial if they think you are a terrorist. Perhaps you think 'I'm not middle eastern' but hey, they jailed some while lawyer a few months ago for a few weeks cause they thought he helped out in the Madrid bombings, then realized they made a mistake and didn't even apologize!
What about other costs because you care so much about greed? Do you care about the environment? Do you like nature at all? I mean even if just to go camping? Or maybe you like skiing and don't realize that thanks to global warming, many ski resorts will become really crappy in the next 20 years. Well guess what, your Republican buddies aren't doing anything about it.
How about rising energy prices? The Republicans aren't about creating an actual solution like say oh... tougher energy regulations (where in the long term, more expensive appliances, cars, and other things will be offset by the lesser price of energy used). In fact they keep INCREASING the rate of increase (i.e. make you use more, faster) of the amount of energy used in the United States, and contributing to the $54/barrel of oil we saw yesterday.
How about education? Do you ever plan to have children? Do you want them to attend college? I assume you just graduated PV... by the time you have children and they grow up to attend college themselves university will be MUCH MUCH more than it is now. Can you afford it?
How about the general economy? Do you honestly believe that a $450 billion budget deficit is a good thing? There is no economist out there that thinks it's a good idea that China and Japan are basically keeping the American goverment solvent by massively buying US treasury bonds. There are very few economists who think that greatly decreasing the amount of money in the general economy because it is all tied up by debt is good for the economy. It's completely unsustainable and the reprocussions are going to be felt.
I don't know what line of work you're in PV, but I'll assume you don't own an oilfield or a goldmine (since you've previously indicated that thanks to your education you will have a good job or something to that effect) and I bet you aren't in some profession where you're basically guaranteed a job (say a doctor for instance) you're quite vulnerable to the whims of the economy just like everyone else, no matter how good your job is right now. Of course I'll take it back if say your family owned a zillion companies or something and your dad will let you take them over.
There are many more things that I can list but I think i've made my point. Although you will see more money in your pocket thanks to lower taxes (maybe a few more thousand dollars), the policies you are supporting will directly raise the cost of absolutely everything else at a rate much faster than your taxes will fall (because with a Republican army that keeps getting more expensive, and random costs of wars which were unnecessary I can't see many more tax cuts being feasible).
By voting for greed as you do and as many others will do, you will be supporting a very limited and short-sighted view of the overall picture, and promoting the idea that this greed is universally good and is absolutely good. The more this goes (and we've seen it get worse and worse these days), the more it will affect your quality of life, and the cost of everything else. At some point, I think it will come back to haunt you no matter who you are if you only subscribe to the 'I don't care about anyone else including me in the future and all I care about is me right now' mantra of living.

That was beautiful epi, I wish that all Americans could read that. If only some people were more informed on the subject, and were actually willing to learn the truth; things might get better in the States and the rest of the world.I AM NOT AN ANIMAL

Did anyone other than me notice that every question during the last debate Bush changed it to education. "What will you do about minimum wage Mr. Bush?" "Well I think this all starts in the schools, and we've done this and that...blah blah blah."
Please answer the mother fucking question. I wonder who all the minorities are going to vote for. Especially the ones from Florida.7:Randedl> afk, putting on makeup

seeing farenheit 9-11 helps put things in perspective. having the rich pay more in taxes seems fair to me. paying taxes is a duty you do for your country, like serving in the military. the richer you are, the less likely you are to serve in the military. the rich should pay a bigger percent of their income. we need to help each other. it seems kind of ungrateful to me when upper income people whine about how much they pay in taxes. michael moore had a point when he alluded to 1984 and how america moves closer to it under the bush administration. i would rather see this country die than have a country like that. i dont think thats what it takes though. i think it takes cooperation.Ripper>cant pee with a hard on

reply all that for me? thanks!
about public healtcare (canadian based)
public healthcare has it's downfall too.
Maybe I am too trusting, but I believe that 99.9% of the population has no concern about a random person walking/driving through a neighborhood. I personally have not felt in danger anywhere I been. I meet people from all over the world at my work position and we often times have frank discussions about world politics. I have yet met a person unable to make a distinction between government and individual people. Only the dimwits can't make a distinction.
apology
they did apologize
are you suggesting that becuase people are poor they commit crimes? The morality of someone is not based off of their wealth, it's environment and belief structure.
i am sorry, how are republicnas forcing the population to use more energy? They deregulated the energy becuase the ideal of capitalism is that competition is good for the people. If the economists wouldn't freak out everytime there is talk of a new power plant it could help lower prices. Prices have risen slowly and not much more than my cable bill. Maybe the republicans are forcing the cable prices to go higher too! (the price change not the price of energy vs cable. That's a really poorly worded sentence)
There are several either tax deferred or lowered plans to save money for children's college. Also the number of avialable scholarships is astounding. It's hard to not get one, especially if you are poor or a minority
college plans
are you again suggesting that bush/republicans are forcing the price of college to rise?
the deficit is a bad thing. The problem is not that other countries are buying the bonds, the problem is when they stop buying the bonds.
I work in food proccessing. It is basically a guranteed business, unless people stop eating.
funny how i am such an evil person for looking out for myself.

Ahh thanks Epi for sum'n that all up in such a nice way. (props) I work at a pharmacy so i have all the prices to every perscription drug on the US market available to me anytime... and the prices are out of this world. I feel horrible for the elderly men and women that come into my job and spend over $300 for just a few scripts. Also .. I live on Long Island,... where the cost of living is through the roof (2 story house = easily over 350k) (car insurance = *under 25 male* = 3K a year), and yes like Epi said there is lots of violence in certain towns, but also like Epi said there are rich neighborhoods and developments ...(Puffy lives somewhere around here) ...that are surrounded by gates.
The rich are happy with their money and try to get their taxes lowered to stay in their greedy lifestyle, but if the day comes that a tornado rips through their house and takes everything away from that person, then they will see the light... and will understand the importance of helping other people out when they need it. When u come from a rich family... u want ur parents to have money so u end up voting the way they do too (most of the time due to brainwashing), but when u come from a broken home wit little money u'd see things differently, and if i could change my life ..... i'd change some of it.. cuz my life has been fukn crazy... but i wouldn't change the fact that i lived wit my momz for 8 yrs just her and i wit the fucking roof caving in on me while i slept (yes it happened) and the water dripping out of the celling (that always happened), and rats crawling in my wall next to my bed (every night)- cuz it made me into a caring person who looks out for other people.. and ultimately a democrat.
So once again.. suck a big fat dick all u rich republican bastards i hope u all choke on ur fucking veal dinners.
