I wouldn't play that ugly ass Kaizer Chiefs song on a party, unless you want to use it to get all your guests to leave at the end of it.

Bloc Party, Ocean Colour Scene and Jimi go in the right direction if you want people to dance a bit (dunno if you English lads can actually dance though.) Other than that your list seems to lack good dancing music. I'd throw in some Spanish music and some Hiphop, but I guess you don't want any of that, so I won't bother naming any.

So...hmm.. some music I'd throw in:

The Libertines - Last Post on the Bugle / What became of the likely lads (last song takes too long really for a party)
The Postal Service - Such great heights / Brand Colony (good songs to dance too, unfortunatly most of their songs start of very slow.. :/)

The Dismemberment plan - Doing the standing still / Pay for the Piano / Gyroscope (in that order really)

I took Ocean Colour Scene off the list as it doesn't have a strong enough beat. You said all that... and recommend Last Post On The Bugle AND WHAT BECAME OF THE LIKELY LADS??? I don't want dancing - danceable truely was the wrong word - I want upbeat music for people to drink to before we go out, and for that purpose Passenger is far inferior

a) Music is to get everyone there to a party mood
b) Nobody will remember what you played next day

conclusion: Start serious, and the further the day goes, the suckier songs you start playing. In the end, everyone will go wild whatever well-known song out there. Themes from childrens' cartoons are great.

Also the passenger is a great iggy song too.

i have yet to meet more than about 2 women that are truly interested in my indie music tastes once they're wasted. all they want to do is dance and be lushes, and the only music that caters to that is either party-rap or mainstream energy-rock. sorry

you could save a couple of your lesser-known favorites that your friends (MATES) would recognize, but if you're looking to socialize with snatch, pass on most of it.

drunk people have more fun if they recognize what they're listening to, so i'd suggest dumbing down your musical intelligence for the night
