Incidentally i was thinking of posting that but couldn't be bothered to go looking for it...
We owned more than a third of the worlds land mass once... We actually weren't that bothered about America back then anyway, stop being so ungrateful to our tiny little country when we built the foundations of most of your country.

I pose this question, Why do so many Americans hold some sort of grudge against the British?

The truth is, we pulled out of America because France and Spain were getting ready to fight us again.. After the French defeat in the 7 year war they badly wanted revenge and with one eye on America all the time they had time to ally with Spain and prepare a naval fleet that could at least "match" the strength of the British Navy.
That was therefore the problem, with such a strong hold on the seas while fighting America, obviously using naval supply lines that took 2-4 months to travel along to resupply border bases along America it was no longer worth while risking a war on one side of the world when there was a bigger problem manifesting itself at home.
I wouldn't say the American Revolution was ever essentially won, just that Britain stopped resupplying troops over there and pulled many out in order to prepare for a combined Franco-Spanish fleet.

Well that's my personal take on why we lost, after reading through some old notes and a lot of web-content.

I do not think it was a bad topic on the forum. It may be interesting to know how anothers country views another country when they had distinctive historical backgrounds & hearing how it is discussed in schools.

I was just pleased that Scumbag was up on the Waterloo answer.

Personally...I love history and to hear how it may be discussed in different cultures and countries is interesting and not a debate of who is better or worse.
