The American Revolution was totally boss. George Washington + British people and guns? Boss like sauce.
Haha, the word 'boss' is said liek that where I come from in England. Only Merseyside though. It's become a bit of a stereotype

It was taught, briefly, and called "The American Revolution".

We were pricks back then, we know we were, and that's the way it comes across when it's taught in our schools.
Thus ends my contribution to this thread, which is probably going to collapse into an America hates Britain and vice versa flame fest.

So events that eventually helped shape the current politcal, social, and economic condition of your country today are essentially ignored? Sounds good to me.

In that case, shouldn't you guys be studying up on the French since they were the ones that made the american revolution possible?

We had it at our 'high-school', but that was because I had history as a subject. America had quite a big part in our history. It's expected that we know enough about our own country by the time we go to high-school.
The mayority of history was about the world wars, the industrial revolution world-wide and America. Ofcourse the Netherlands had some history there too, and we still live with the shame

And I'm pretty sure British students could take a course called "American History" and get their information that way too.

Yep...His name was Lafayette. Contributing to the training and leadership of the US Militia at Valley Forge as well as in other area's during this revolution.

As for 1812 and the Burning of the White House, this was during President Madisons' term. Some here in the States may know his wife as the one time popular Ice Cream label/producer Dolly Madison Ice Cream. They moved to Philadelphia temporaily after the White House was burned.

Philadelphia was actually the capital of the US before New York City (New Amsetrdam) and Washington D.C., Unfortunately the house in which Washington served as President no longer exists, as they tore it down yrs ago for a Woolworths Dept. Store....lol...typical Philadelphia crap.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

So I'm taking European History classes at this local community college and I think that I might be the smartest person there.

How I wish I could afford Yale classes.

Perhaps the Frenchman Riesen is thinking of is Major Jean Villeneuve the fictional character from the movie The Patriot. :)
However, likely you are right 404.
People who are rather more than six feet tall and nearly as broad across the shoulders often have uneventful journeys. People jump out at them from behind rocks then say things like, "Oh. Sorry. I thought you were someone else."
