By all means interpretation of any teaching religous or otherwise allows its evolution or progression to "fit" our own beliefs.. They should not completely instruct a person, but advise.

Personally I hate the whole notion of hell, I belive that nobody can know to any extent what this world is truely about and so any unbaptised/illinformed people without leading a particularly bad life deserve (and should recieve) forgiveness.

Remember, God is an absolute being and knows a persons true sorrows and guilts.



You haven't yet been baptised, do not think of it as a "get out of jail free card" but when you are personally ready.. there will be little else stopping you. Good luck.

Religion is a form of control.
If someone doesn't give anything about his life, you cannot control him by threatening to kill him, but if you can make him believe that there is an afterlife where someone can punish him, you can keep him from doing wrong. Religion is a very powerful tool.
I think that's why you are not allowed to make an image of God, it will take away (some of) the mystery and thereby the fear for God.

I don't see it as a total form of control, this argument has been done dozens of times but religion means alot of different things to alot of different people.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe it says somewhere in the good book that God wants followers who think, as opposed to those who follow blindly.

Or this could have just been something someone said to me once, either way I believe it (which is ironic because I'm believing something which has been fed to me).

I believe Christians need to be baptized to go to Heaven, because for Christians there is no Purgatory at all. I haven't been baptized but 'm going to talk to Abby about it, she has been I think, can't remember at the moment.

But when it comes to Christians, every book 've read they always describe someone who repents in church getting baptized then and there.

look at it from a non religious point of view, if you had never heard of christianity and seen a group of so called civilized people debating whether or not splashing some water and saying a few words will get them into a mystical paradise for all eternity after they have died. I think you might think that they were crazy and naive.

I've seen christians scoff at other (specialy more ancient religions) rituals, yet baptism is a really silly ritual in itself, maybe i should do a rain dance in the middle of the street (bad example as we get plenty of rain) and see the looks i get from the general populace.

Purgatory Catholics believe, is a place where you go when you have died and are not ready to recieve heaven, or hell. Basically, it's a big line where you wait for your sould to be judged. The perk is that once in purgatory, you can't be sent to hell. The bad part is: It could take a veeeeeery long time for you to have your sould judged, and then if you don't pass inspection, you get to wait in purgatory for another chance to have your sould examined.

We watched a movie about purgatory in Confirmation class once. By worshipping these holy relics, you're supposedly cutting the time that you spend in purgatory. Just praying over this tiny little thing cuts out about 10,000 years in purgatory, so it makes you wonder how many years the Catholics believe you spend in purgatory. Can anyone enlighten me on this?
