Also, someone mentioned about how the Catholic church is so great for translating and spreading the Bible. Wrong! The Catholic church, long ago in Luther's time, only had one translation of the Bible. I believe it was written in Greek (not sure though). Anyway, the average person didn't own any books. The average person couldn't read, much less read in a foreign language. Everything that the priest said they had to believe because they said it was in the Bible. Obviously the priest could get them to think whatever he wanted them to think. So who was it that finally translated the Bible into German so that everyone could read it and find out how corrupt the Catholic church really was? Yea, Martin Luther. So actually the Lutherans are responsible for translating and spreading the Bible.
Everyone is bashing me for saying that Catholicism isn't Christianity. I never said that at all - I said some people don't considering Catholicism as a Christian religion. All of the Christian religions are very closely linked, but Catholicism has a ton of differences.
...
1) it was in LATIN
2) Who do you think translated the old testament from HEBREW to LATIN.
3) The Catholic Priests Transcribed and Maintained the bible as i said ... If they were so corrupt and evil like you say, whos to say they didn't change it and edit bits out??
So why do you believe in some german translation off the catholic bible if they are so corrupt? In my world,

First off,
Wow... Lots of differences? Why cant you see that I worship the Christ... when it comes down to it, throw all our different traditions away, and there you will have it. I am a Christian... Catholic yes, but STILL a Christian. I have not judged anyone in my thread. But many others have... Isn't it unChristian to judge?
As for purgatory... I told you... about that. And it was not made up to 'scare' anyone. I am sure Hell is a lot scarier than purgatory. Why would we need any more fear?
Okay... about Mary again... It is near Christmas... you should be going over the scriptures leading up to Christ's birth. I want to to pay extra attention to... "Hail Mary, Full of Grace, Bless'd are you among women." I wonder what the Angel of God might have been trying to convey...Last.Fm

"Humanitarian response to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake"
That is one disaster. My country was at war at the time. A war half a world away. That takes a lot of money in itself. It came at a very bad time financially with my country. You can not just find one disaster and base all agruements with it.
America's generousity has been known for decades. Think of the end of the great wars... who financed the rebuilding? And while we are at it, lets keep in mind that human lives count a great deal more than money.
You may not think my country is generous, but consider this. I cant go to college without the money. I am having to enlist to get the money for college. However we give billions of dollars a year to countries whose average people hate our guts. Hmmm... that does not sound really fair to me. But whatever.Last.Fm

But now you're going exactly against what Jesus said. Remember the parable of the Coins. The one where the old woman with one coin gives her only coin, while the man with 3 coins gives the same amount: 1 coin. Well, to put that parable into light today, then the US should be able to give much of their wealth. Let's say China is able to give 3/4's of their wealth, it's up to the US to match it. So, rather than us only giving a little bit, Jesus would intend for us to give all. That idea is incrediably unrealistic and thus should not be adopted, lest we should completely change the infrastructure of the world. Pretty soon, Africa would be the wealthiest nation in the world, and the US would be the third world.
And as far as what you said toward not judging others, and that being a very unchristian thing to do, it's also an inhuman thing to do. Judgement is something each of us does without even realizing it, whether it be a judgement base on personality, or a judgement based on appearance, each and every human in this world judges others. So, don't pull that oh if you're a good Chrisitian you wont judge others crap, because it's impossible.Originally posted by ToneWomen who smoke cigarettes are sexy, not repulsive. Okay...
First off dear Sqeezer,
Jesus spoke in parables that is why we interpret them figuratively. The old Testiment was not Parables... it was... "This is bad, This is badder. Definitely dont do that!" No parables were in the old Testiment, so we take it literally. Also, I have not been taught that the book of revelations was figurative. I seriously doubt that a beast with 6 or 7 heads will decend upon the earth.
Now (still to his Eminence),
The woman was giving to her Church. I would willingly give all my money to my Church... which currently is... $5.67. This is not much, but I would give it to them. I may be less likely to give it to someone who hates everything I represent.
Also (Eminence),
There is a difference between having thoughts about someone, and voicing those thoughts about somone. I may have a tendency to judge people, but it is my Christian duty to push it aside, as it is not my job to Judge.
P.S. Define 'infrastructure.' I was brought up thinking this had to do with roads, bridges, pipelines, and inter-states.Last edited by The Catholic; 12-22-2005, 03:19 PM.Last.Fm

Faith blinds people, and I will show you with a simple example:
In the netherlands we have Sinterklaas, but it's the same as Santa Claus so I won't relay what Sinterklaas exactly is. Anyway, kids believe in this, they think it's true right?
Now I know a story, of a teacher of a grade with 4/5 year old kids and during Sinterklaas what he did was, he dressed himself up as sinterklaas, Right infront of the kids. He played his Sinterklaas role, then he undressed himself and became the teacher again, and again Right infront of the kids. But the kids never noticed a thing. They just thought there was their teacher, sinterklaas came, and he went away again and the teacher was back. Why? Becuase they BELIEVE Sinterklaas is real, they have no reason to doubt this at all.
And it's the same with any faith, it blinds us, if we believe in something strongly we WANT to believe it's true and we will ignore any signs that it might not be true or not completely true, therefor this is quite a useless discussion.Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

Hmmm,
All across my town there are huge and electronic filled Churches. The largest churches in my town are protestant. Why not ask them to sell all their 52' projection screens? (And yes that is a ' not a ") Or their $10,000 sound system? Or their special lighting systems that make the Preacher look embossed with Heavenly light.
The Vatican is the central government point of the Roman Catholic Church. We will never sell it. It is too valuable to us sentimentally and spiritually. It would be the equivalent to the Muslims blowing up Meca.
Faith blinds people... Well so does too much sun, which those kids evidently had. If my teacher had done that I would have immediately known that Santa had indeed not been there, that only my teacher pretending to be him was there.Last.Fm
