In more common culture, at least common to most of us on here, dogs are generally thought of as domesticated house pets. However, that's not the case everywhere. I can recall reading for some class an article about this family that had to kill their pet and eat it to survive, because they had nothing left to eat.

Anyways, different cultures feel differently about different animals, juse because they eat dogs doesn't make them wrong because you think of dogs as a cute little house pet.

I'm sure way back when if we didn't come to domesticating dogs or cats, the slaughterhouses would be more than gladly to process them for us, and would certainly not hold back because they uphold some sort of 'cuteness' value.

Life is propserous as a food chain, where animals not in our category of organism are considered a predator or prey. We've only come to domesticating animals as a sign of domination over them, and if there is one thing humans like to do more over anything else, is to own more, possess more, and control more things that they could previously have the capacity to have.

The whole morality thing with animal cruelty is just an extension from the value that we should not hurt other human beings based on that food chain theory. It is 'inefficient' to do so when there are other animals to feed on that would require less energy expenditure to feed, so we don't do it.

Humans like to think a lot too, so this value of not attacking other human beings has transcended towards applying to animals as well, long after we've begun domesticating many pets. We began to see certain animals as 'worthy' while others simply as food. Animal activists groups see to the extremity of the situation, and that is all animals should be equal regardless. Therefore, activists promote to extend the courtesy of not abusing animals to ALL kinds of animals, including those we are about to eat.
