Yes we had slavery, but we were also one of the richest countries in the world at one point, we had the first real company. And yes New York was ours, in the peace treaty (sp?) in 1667 (after war with England) England got New Amsterdam and we got Suriname

As from when the Netherlands began is just how you look at it. You have either the moment of independence of the Netherlands, or, from the first real cities and inhabitants on, which is all the way back to the Roman Empire. Because since the Roman Empire the Dutch have existed, and until our moment of indepence we have either ruled ourselves (for example: "United Dutch Provinces") or we were part of Spain and other Nations. (dutch term for us back then was "de geuzen") So you might say we weren't an official country until 1815 when we had our declaration of indepence, but the dutch go way further back. So I suggest you start learning your history and go back to the chick you dated, because she was wrong.

So, plz Seal, learn your history before you claim all that, the dutch are way older then the USA, and we have stuff to proud off, also stuff not to be proud off.

The Dutch did not discover America, nor did any other country for that matter. North America was always here and inhabited by civilizations of tribes across the continent with somewhat more advanced mathematical and scientific understanding that the Euro Conquerors. Farming for example and the mathematics for the calendar had been used by these tribes for centuries prior to it even being an idea for the greko-roman conquests.

How does one discover something that was always there?

If we want to talk about the slaughter of the natural inhabitants by the Europeans, then we can look at great Generals, such as Britain's General Amherst in the 16th Century Colonies, who's brilliant idea was to kill as many natural inhabitants as possible by giving them blankets tainted with small pox. Columbus killed more Indian's than Hitler had killed in WWII, as he and his crew introduced and gave such a varied amount of diseases to the natural Indian civilizations, that over 1/3 of the tribes populations that they had contact with all died. So now on Columbus day we have sales on bed linens and shoes at all the shopping malls.

The America's had been long discovered and inhabited prior to any European settlement.....I guess I am saying that instead of saying "Discovered", the term Conquered or overrun, would be a better term as technically it was all stolen land. Only fault the Indians face today is that they should have slaughtered everyone who set foot on this land and perhaps it would be a different place than it is today!

in the terms you make your facts, this fact cannot be unseen: before columbus "invented usa", america existed. Therefore it also had a history, just like holland existed before it got independend.

bottom line what i say is true: the country holland doesn't exists much longer than the country usa. And THAT is the most funny part: dumb dutch people telling americans they dont have a history. it's plain humor!

With your googled facts, you answered it yourself: official country until 1815. So don't tell me to study history better, when you google things and copy/paste them, without even reading your own text close enough.
