A lot has to change, not only in leadership but it would be a good start. I think a lot of people delude themselves into thinking once Bush is out of office or if the Democats take over everything will be all better. Well the problem is Democrats are still American, many not far off base with foreign policy, social values and general arrogance Republicans spew. Other things like the "culture war" is not going to be over, the "war on terror" is going to rage on and consume some other countires unless something like a major revolution topples the organizations built up around the US Military, poverty and homelessness (world wide but in Canada and believe it or not the USA) are still major problems, it seems "social values" has been coopted by fundamentalist and they're not going away anytime soon either.

So I don't hate what America stands for, democracy, freedom and all that good stuff (I'm willing to bet that most Europeans don't either), I don't hate or group all Americans as fundamentalist though it is a growing problem nor would I group them as liberally minded or all moderatly minded. I think each American knows what it is to be American and that's good enough for them. We have gone down different paths due to specific groups within the US and world wide but I hope Canada and all western nations could work together solving these problems in the future once some political change happens.

first of all i don't hate US or americans.

i think that some of the hatred directed at the US is because of the recent wars that have started up. a leader change here could make some hatred stop.

but the big reason that people hate the US is because it's basically ruling the world. a leader change here wont help anything.

so i think in general, people will still hate the US, just maybe not so much once bush is gone.

your second comment raises an interesting question to me:

In the old days of monarchies, civilians were considered blameless, so they didn't catch heat because of their leader's decisions. (theoretically) with the pseudo-democracies that are around today, how does this change the civilian's role in war?
it's possible that each american citizen is responsible for their leader and his actions. (i'm not sure just throwing it out there to see what you think)

Don't get me wrong, I love where I live, but Vegas is a great city, so that's expected. All I'm saying is that just because a lot of people here are fat/idiotic doesn't mean we all are, and I wonder if credibility will increase once we have a better frontman.
