Mohegan Sun > Foxwoods. I grew up in colchester, but moves to Willi-rico for school. Then joined the army. Im about to seperate from service and come back home though. Wanna go to the casino for new years? I'll be going with my wife and a couple friends.

1) My older cousin (who took me under her wing when I dropped out of college) is the Speech Pathologist at Jack Jackter... From everything she's told me about the board of ed there... I hate that town.

2) I do not know what Willi-rico is, this cannot be a town, and if it is, it must be very very very small, or an abriged name of some town.

3) I have been to Mohegan for new years, it is a lot of fun, but very crowded!Although, youu have to admit that it'd be incredibly strange for both parties to have a guy you hardly know, let alone know online, to spend new years with your good friends and your wife.

4) I have plans for new years already and I tend to spend it with my children, who will probably fall asleep in our laps before the ball even drops (and if they don't, oh it's going to be a fun day for my wife and I on New Years day... wooo! Cranky city! :/ ).

5) I appreciate your offer, I hope to get to know you better in TW, you seem like a warm hearted fellow.

6) I agree, Mohegan Sun is much classier and extravagent than Foxwoods. I suppose I was going for an allusion-esque joke to see who knew about that fucking stupid song that plays over and over again on all Northeast radio/tv stations. No offense to Foxwoods though, it is still the biggest casino in the world, and an expansion is coming up soon for that that stupid place.

For the most part, it doesn't really matter where you go to school, so just go to somewhere that you will really enjoy.

As for magnet schools, I had a bunch of SS friends way back who went to magnet school and they were pretty cool and fun guys. Even met one of them in real life when he visited Toronto. They weren't any less socially adjusted at all, just really geeky but then I am too and I went to normal public school...

Paul, am I really an asshole? I, truthfully, don't want to be a belligerent asshole for no reason. I figure, now is the perfect time to start over with life. I can stop being a dick and then by the time a college picks me up, I'll be clean and clean minded.

In the beginning of November, I quit all drugs. Not in some straightedge faggot manner, but it an effort to clear my mind of jumble for a little bit. I've honestly never been happier with my life. I found a whole new set of friends to talk to, I've found new things to write about, and I've done more with my life in two months than I did for the other ten of the year combined. And it's not like I ditched the friends that do drugs, they ditched me more than vise versa. I have no objections to anyone else doing anything, and I'm not their conscience telling them what's right or wrong, I'm just there to give them a ride if they need it, or give them a slap in the face if they pass out.

This, in the long scheme of things, is a small roadbump, and I assure you that I will be happy where-ever I go.

(PS: When I say all drugs, I exclude LSD, though I don't do it that much anymore, and booze)

I didn't even care about college shit until like 2nd semester Junior year. But I was in the college counseling office, and some 7th grader's mom called to speak with the counselor, and I was like "wtf? omglolbbqCHOCOLATE?!?!"

I need to stop being so egotistic on internet forums (even if I didn't do it in this one). That's my new years resolution. Can't wait to tell my parents

Still, obviously, I don't mean that everyone at those places has no social skills. I just meant that if you are completely lame, and you go to one of those places, you can surround yourself with people exactly like you and not realize that you really have problems.

Well... to get in you have to pass a most basic test and have like, a C minus grade point average. But seeing as it is Louisiana, like #49th in overall education out of 50 states...

Magnet was founded in the early 90's so it is still kinda new. Magnet used to be a very liberal place, so most of the kids who wanted to kick back and chill went there. Over time it's gotten more strict - mainly because our campus used to be a middle school in the ghetto, there have been cases where robbers walk onto campus and hold up a teacher - but compared to other schools, we are still very relaxed. No hall monitors, lax enforcement of dress code, leaving campus with little/no hassle. The general idea is, we had the rules because they were state mandated, but as long as noone abused the priveledge, we coould do as we pleased.

This school has two modes. You can coast through and pretty much get a general education in a relaxed atmosphere, or you can cram up ap/gateway/honors classes. I mixed both, doing general math (my weakpoint) but going gateway and ap with english, history. Science... what science? I took chemistry with a blowoff teacher who talked about her kids every day.

We have talent shows and "picnics", where the artistry begins to shine. Bands are allowed to play, et cetera. Every year Manget has the one "big" band. My four years:

freshman: statuescrybleeding
sophomore: april's love affair
junior:frog
senior: noids

You can see the gradual transition from dime-a-dozen hardcore to straight up blues/rockabilly.

...but as for your original point, yeah, ton of nerds who will never see sunlight. But we got soulllll, and we're super bad.

1) colleges will have quotas for accepting people from your school
2) you can't use it to compensate for good grades if you're looking at competitive universities because there are people in the exact same place who ARE getting good grades

If you want to get into UVA and you go to TJ (the school face was talking about) you're basically screwed because everyone else wants to go there too.

My school was something like 55th in the country when I was there, I had a 3.9/4.0 with both IB and AP classes and there were probably around 40 people with a higher GPA than me who had taken MORE IB/AP classes, just in my graduating class alone. So no, getting by on reputation isn't really a solid game plan.

Tell me about it. So many people from my school apply to Yale that it becomes inter-school competition. The 15ish people from my grade that applied early were all incredibly qualified, but there was no way that they were going to take all 15. I'm relying on my extracurricular stuff to really set me apart from the bookworms, but I agree with what you're saying (I have some friends at TJ in similar situations).

At least I'm a half-decent shark in TW. Maybe I'll come back to visit after my last highschool finals ever (cause I'll be done with apps, too!)

I go to Landon in Maryland which has a pretty good reputation and I happen to be in one of the smartest classes its had in years...

But my mom went to Cornell and my dad to Virginia so I have two good legacies. Hopefully it will help some.
