X-COM: UFO Defense (released in 1994 by Microprose)

Pure elite. The first, and probably the only time I was bummed about a game was when I got hold on that lame lame lame X-COM 3, what was it called, Armageddon or something. They totally ruined it

rofl..ADOM...thats a game I dont think I've ever managed to beat, even with sitting at pools and copy/pasting the save file until I completely buff my stats up. Probably cause I run across the most random bullshit mobs

Whoever mentioned face-off, that game was pure gold. I could literally sit for 30 minutes just planning one powerplay strategy...besides that, it was much more fun to watch your team play than play yourself because it was too easy then.

EDIT: And TIM - The incredible machine. I remember when we had this game on my first computer, we had to delete EVERYTHING except the most necessary to get this game running. Luckily my brother did all that considering I was like 5

That reminds me of the game called 'heart of china'.

The game was a whole 5 (or 6) floppy's big and I had to remove word perfect (incl documents) to get it on the harddisk. I don't have to explain how much my parents enjoyed that little incident.

Also there was this game I had for the NES, it was Macdonalds related, some sort of sidescroller. It used to really piss me off cause it had no save feature and you'd always like die on the last level and lose and have to start all over again. I left my NES on for like 20 hours straight just to complete that game, can't remember if I ever pulled it off.

Anyway, if someone knows the name of that game I'd love them forever! I wanna see if I can complete it now 10 years later :P (most likely) I've never been able to find any record of it anywhere, it's depressing!

Sensible Soccer.

fuck yes! especially the career-mode where you could be player/coach was simply phenomenall!! (only the pes-series comes close to that in coolness (unfortunately pes doesnt even work on my current pc ))

also:
ultimate soccer manager 2 (i already was a manager-game fanatic at a young age). unfortunately i lost this game a long time ago and i cant find a download for it..

am i a nerd for feeling nostalgic when i read this thread?

I don't know about that nerd issue, as I know what I had to go through in order to play some of those games, and it wasn't like you could do it every day:

Arcades - main issue, cash. Could be raised by walking (so you save bus money) like 45-55 mins all the way to my grandparents, and then sitting with them an hour or so. After 4-5 hrs of going to relatives/walking around, there'd be enough to play some games. Also, washing dad's car, helping around neighbourhood...had to be a busy little bee... :P

Atari (was it Atari) - with the cassettes that held like 50 games/side and a screwdriver to adjust the head, I don't remember ever playing a single game without any fuss. Either someone steals the screwdriver, there are no joysticks, the tape is chewed up, always had to run around collecting stuff

C 64 - cousin of mine would sneak it out of his house, carried it over to my place (hidden so ppl dont steal/break it) and we'd play. We never played at his house, his parent were too strict, and if his dad cought him taking it out, he'd get a beating, so there were all kinds of sneak/stealth/cia missions going on with us 3

Sega/Snes - No cash to buy one so we'd rent it at the video store on fridays, then we'd usually sit around all weeked playing it. I remember going 36 hours straight without sleep playing Street fighter
