    so...about that last post

    really? i mean...really?

he resisted arrest. there wasn't 4 people holding him down just for the hell of it. when you resist arrest, typically force is used in order to arrest said person. like conc said, was the tazing a bit much? perhaps. but i think people are looking a little bit too into it just because somebody happened to be videotaping it when it happened. put down your idealism swords.

    i have seen the fnords

For "home of the brave" you people need to grow a pair and stop putting up with this shit.
It is a scary new world and basically we are all getting ass fucked as much as we allow.
You accept this as appropriate with your apathism, and tomorrow they will be kicking your door in and holding you down with tasers as they rape your children/siblings... What? You think this is abhorrent and could not possibly happen? 10 years ago you would have thought the same about a student being held down and tased for questioning a government official... how things change.
Oh and for those who are frustrated at the current lack of oppresive resistance, I would suggest moving to Ireland. The Irish know what is of real value in this world and will die defending it.

Eh? the only thing I've said about Euros thus far is the one demographic bit per country, which is pretty much true.

Well Ayano, you can't really call someone ignorant for stereotyping Americans when you go on to stereotype European countries.

Who said he's lovely? If you knew anything about the East West and Mid-West of the Us, you'd see the demographic better. European countries are pretty much one demographic due to their cookie cut size, thus the reason why Euros are ranting on on how their government is always far more 'just' and 'reasoning' than US politics.. well exception being France and Britain at the moment.

The NY rape incident has been studied by many researchers. It occurred in an apartment court yard during a warm summer evening. Many people had their windows open and heard the victim screaming for help.
It is famous because it epitomizes what is called ‘diffusion of responsibility’ and is cited in many sociology books as a typical human response. Diffusion of responsibility has been proven by many other experiments. If 15 people are standing around and one person falls to the ground looking seriously ill, it takes far longer for people to respond because everyone assumes the other people will react vs. if just 3 people are standing there.
This occurs in any group of people, not just New Yorkers.

Yeah I agree, just wanted to explain why I dont think anyone was apathetic about what was going on.

You could call the police when someone's breaking the law, even when they're in uniform.

Then I thought about if I would have spoken up. It's really sad how apathetic my generation is.
Not apathetic..it takes a lot of different question-answer thinking to move someone to do something "heroic," in this case saying/doing something to stop this man from being tased. It comes down to responsibility, not the lack of care. There have been many psychological studies about why people stand in place and do nothing to help someone, and it comes down to responsibility. First, people witness a crime taking place. Then they decide if they have to be the one to help--a crowd of people actually makes this worse because everyone assumes someone else will do something, whereas being alone a person is more inclined to help because they see it as their responsibility--if they continue to think they need to help, then they must ask themselves what to do, if they know what to do then they must figure out how to do it/if they can accomplish the task required to help, etc...until one person finally makes the decision to act. Usually people stop after the step "everyone else is here, I'm sure someone will do something." On the contrary, if one person DOES decide to do something it makes the odds much higher that other people will help too.

Things were also made much more complicated because in this situation, authority figures were present.
