I'm sorry to rain on everyone's parade here, again, but you guys are right. If we lived in this ideal society this shouldn't happen. But, guess what? Life sucks, wear a fucking helmet. You don't do stupid shit like that with police and not expect to get your ass beat. Simple as that.

Any police officer looks out for number one before anything else. They put themselves at risk daily, and try to make damn sure they're going home at the end of their shift.
And police were simply trying to escort him out, before he started pushing away and resisting their escort. They hadn't cuffed him or used any force on him prior to his resisting and pushing of the officers. Failure to comply with police orders and pushing officers like that doesn't fly, hence they took him down. As he was on the ground, he was still resisting and flapping his arms about and they clearly said "if you don't stop, you're going to be tasered." And what happened? Well, he didn't stop. For all any of you know, he could have had a gun concealed somewhere on him and was flapping his arms trying to reach it before being cuffed and patted down. You simply don't know, and you can me Goddamn sure no fucking police officer is going to risk that.. Whether for their own safety or the safety of any one of the surrounding individuals. Tasers, though really fucking painful, are non-lethal and more accurate and effective than pepper spray.

It's your type of mentality which is held by autocrats in less priveleged countries to keep the population quiet. 'Yea, you're allowed to speak but as long as it's not against me or anything that makes me uncomfortable'.
Well, actually, there are restrictions and what you can and cannot say as “freedom of speech” does not mean “freedom to say whatever you fuck you want.” You can’t go into a crowded theatre and yell “fire.” You can’t threaten to harm of scare any individuals. If I walk by you on the street, and you come up to me and say “I’m gonna fucking stab you right now,” regardless to if you even have a knife on you that is not covered under the “freedom of speech” statute in the bill of rights. Hell, if everyday you just say “you‘re gay” to me in class and it really bothers me, once you’re given fair warning that it bothers or offends me, as soon as you say it again you better believe there could be a harassment charge brought against you. There are limitations, as conc pointed out, that do in face restrict what is and is not protected by “freedom of speech”.
Anyways, bottom line is a cop tells you to do something, you have to do it. This dumbass didn't, and he learned that hard way that it doesn't pay to be a douchebag. But, straight up, this isn't brutality. Rodney King was fucking brutality, but this shit doesn't even come close to it. And if the officers are suspended (I'm sure with pay) pending an investigation, I can almost guaran-damn-tee that the officers will be cleared with justifiable use of non-lethal force.

I disagree with the arrest, even if the cop just tried to escort him, he asked why he was being arrested, and they wouldn't tell him at any time. It's not just the right of freedom of speech, it's also your right to know why you're being arrested.
In my opinion, it was excessive force, as there was already 4-5 cops over top of him, and he was screaming "don't tase me", and they did anyways. It doesn't look any better when Kerry was actually answering the student's question (even if the student cut him off a bit) - though Kerry suposedly made a joke about the student after the student was taken away, and later issued a statement after the incident.

Just to be clear, I don't think the guy should have been tased. I thought I made that point clear, but evidently there's some sort of vocab filter as things head trans-Atlantic.

Judging from video at different angles of the incident, the cops just grabbed his arm and tried to escort him out. The guy obviously felt inclined to continue his annoying tirade so he was resisting arrest, which cops can use against him when they use force. I mean, the guy was just asking to get his ass beat. So therefore I agree with the cops in how they handled him initially, but the tasering just makes this a bad situation. It's police brutality and if I were him, I would sue the shit out of the cop who tasered me.

Conc isn't anything like that. There are people like the UCLA kid who believe making a scene and interrupting public functions is completely ok and is covered under free speech so they'll be annoying cunts to whomever they wish.
