a quick cynical summary for non-americans and lazy americans

            Not comprehensive:

Republicans (claim to be conservative or right-wing)
            --------------
Rudolph Giuliani - Front-man for insane neoconservative agenda (want more wars of aggression and corruption scandals? look no further). Former mayor of nyc. "Hero" of 9/11 (simply because he was there.) The media laps up his toe-lint like there's no tomorrow. Could very well be the next Hitler if wasn't such an incompetent stooge (sound familiar?).

Mitt Romney - A corporate billboard who also happens to be Mormon. Claimed to pull over his car and 'weep' when he had found out that his church allowed blacks in a few decades ago. ahahaha. The media eats his dung though sometimes fixates on his Mormonism as a reason why he can't be president.

Mike Huckabee - Hates evolution, faggots, and probably you. Backed by radical fundamentalist christians (aka evangelicals.) Not sure but his support seems more grassroots than the previous two. More ignored by the media, but lately has featured more prominently. Will do everything in his power to bring about the apocalypse if he wins anything.

Ron Paul - Anti-establishment libertarian that is universally ignored and treated condescendingly by the media. Monetarily ahead of or on-par with the others, though that doesn't mean anything. Support is mostly grassroots, comes from many different kinds of people. Will be assassinated if he wins anything.

Democrats (claim to be liberal or left-wing)
            -------------
Hillary Clinton - Front-woman for insane neoconservative agenda (want more wars of aggression and corruption scandals? look no further). Former (err..current) wife of Bill Clinton. "Heroine/Villainess" of the 90's (simply because she was there.) The media laps up her toe-lint like there's no tomorrow. People who call themselves "conservatives" universally hate her for some unspecified reason. Has support from many females and college students probably.

Barack Obama - Token black guy who actually seems to be doing OK. Slightly less offensive than Hillary Clinton, still your typical, bland, pandering politician. Has support from many college students probably.

John Edwards - Has made many interesting statements criticizing the media establishment. Bland, pandering politician. More strongly Christian than the previous two I think.

Dennis Kuicinich - Anti-establishment, ignored and ridiculed by the media. Doing poorly in the polls and monetarily. Frequently calls for impeachment of Cheney and Bush. Has a hot wife. Democrats secretly wish they could vote for him, but are too whipped by the media/afraid of electing someone that all americans won't vote for. (self-limiting groupthink)
            'vet' is the new 'newb'.

I wish Joe Biden had a chance.

BTW, a lot of what Panda wrote is wrong. When I have more time I'll give a detailed explanation for non-Americans (and I guess some Americans).

                      Why?

Candidates from both sides are opposed to waterboarding. John McCain, someone who was a POW and tortured for months, was just on Hardball talking about his vehement stance against waterboarding and basically echoed what candidates from both the Democratic and Republican party have said, which is: Since the United States is so powerful, it's a country that should set a moral standard, and using waterboarding after trying the Japanese for war crimes involving waterboarding is pretty hypocritical. Of course it goes beyond just that example, but that applies for many ethical issues across the board.

Izor: You're another one of the idiots in America who actually thinks Republicans and Democrats have substantially different policies. Sure, they like to make people think they are different (Republicans conserving precedents of the past, while Democrats pushing for change). That's all bullshit, and anyone who buys into that garbage is truly an idiot. I would also like to point out that you are a complete idiot, because even if the Democratic candidate is excellent, you will abstain. Voting based solely on party is closed-minded and ignorant, but hey, you've never proven to be anything but that in your past.

The reality is that neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton will win the Presidency, simply because one is black and one is a woman. These are not my feelings, as I plan to vote for Barack Obama (should he win the nomination), but this is reality. The southern states will never swing for a woman or a black person. Rudy Guiliani will be our next President. (calling that)

                          TWLB All-Star Season 10

First let me start out by saying that attacking someone isn't exactly the best way to persuade them that their position is wrong. Izor is going about it the wrong way because he's voting based on party rather than platform. Also, you present a simplified view of what the parties claim to support - each party has its conservative and progressive elements (Huckabee vs Paul and Hillary vs Kucinich). But yes, ultimately party affiliation doesn't matter because the "front-runners" (as defined by the media) get their money and support from largely the same corporations and interests.

I disagree with your assertion that being black or a woman is a determining factor here. The media is by far the biggest factor in determining who gets elected, and they appear to be treating Hillary (and to a lesser extent Obama) pretty well.

BTW, many more americans would vote for Obama over Hillary. And don't forget that minorities make up a large part of the south...

It wasn't a joke. I would like to know how others (american or not) view these candidates. Seriously, does Giuliani have anything to say about his platform other than "I was mayor during 9/11" and "I'ma hunt down them terr'ists" and "I used to think abortion and gun control were A-OK until I decided to run for president as a Republican".
