McCain did nothing to cast the thought of that aside other than just saying "no, I won't be." His voting record speaks volumes, and whatever his voting record didn't say, his campaign/veep pick did.

Because she's an idiot, dude. I thought you guys could smell your own. Same goes for "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacherramalamadingdong. It's not an "attack" or "gotcha politics" when you open yourself up as looking not-so-bright in a public venue. Joe Biden was caught a few times as well.

Please. McCain couldn't take the high road because the media wasn't in his corner? Cry me a fucking river. You're telling me he could live through years in a POW camp but somehow couldn't overcome what Sam Donaldson said? Have you SEEN Sam Donaldson?

It's true. Obama is more conservative than any mainstream politician in Canada as well.

In the end, I don't really believe Obama is really that 'Liberal' in reality. His greatest appeal is that he's just a really, really, really smart guy who has a brilliant ability to see every side of an argument, and will hopefully choose a good middle ground.

If you take a look at his foreign policies for example, you will see that Obama doesn't stand for any particular brand of isolationism or interventionalism. He stands for winning the battles that need to be won and that can be won, and not going for the ones that don't need to be won, or cannot be. He chooses by what will work in reality and the best way to do things, rather than following any particular ideology in doing it.

We will see in the next 4 years just how he manages to find consensus and make America a better country. Even though the Democrats have full majorities now, they are not filabuster proof in the senate, and so some concessions need to be made. As well, to prevent the Republicans from regaining control in the next 2-4 years (congressional 2 years, and next presidential elections) the Democrats need to be restrained from going 'too liberal' and Obama will be the one to do it.

Well that's not entirely true. JP-Stevens is the oldest one @ 88, and he is one of the most liberal if not the most liberal judge. However I highly doubt he will ever die, the man has the stamina of a 21 yr old still. Then comes RBG who is a liberal at age 75, and my bet to die first (although Scalia is giving her a good run for her money). Next come Scalia and Kennedy at age 72. Scalia being the penultimate conservative and Kennedy being the apparent swing vote (he's conservative on almost everything except abortion). Breyer and Souter are 70 and 69 respectively, both being liberal. Then Thomas, Roberts, and Alito are nowhere close to dying. So the entire liberal part of the court is gettin up there in age, while only 2 conservative judges are, so its not quite as easy as you make it sound. JPS gunna be 96 if its an 8 yr term and still laying the smackdown!!!!!

Barack has been called everything from a socialist to a terrorist.

McCain ran a shit campaign and didn't convince anyone he and George Bush had separate policies. Instead of separating himself from Bush he embraced his support. McCain also lost this election heavily by choosing Sarah Palin as his VP. I've seen McCain's character, which is to change himself from being a moderate republican to appeal to the Neo-Conservative base in the Republican party. He probably wouldn't have been as bad as Bush but the McCain I like changed himself to appeal to the extreme right.

edit: As much as I'm happy I'm also in somewhat agreeance with Izor that the Democratic party has way too much power right now. It's fucked that they control all branches of government.
McCain in no way embraced Bush's support. Grouping McCain and Bush together as one entity was done, effectively, by the Obama campaign. And hell who wouldn't, it's not like any of it was untrue, and it worked.

Obama as a terrorist. The only thing I can say about that, is refer to my previous comment about senile rednecked shitsticks actually accusing the guy of such ludicrous "facts", and bandwagonning prepubescent airheads who actually take the accusations seriously (because the opinions of radical dumbasses matter).

And yes, Palin is an idiot. I said that too. Everyone I know has said this. Everyone I don't know has said this. The internet has said this. Her baby is the physical representation and the epitome of this statement.

The Democrats have a majority in the senate, but they don't have a 60 to 40 majority to prevent a filibuster. So pretty much half of the plans and policies Obama plans to put into action will simply die in the Senate before getting passed.

In other news, California, while voting overwhelmingly blue, FAILED to rejected Proposition 8, which, if passed (and it did), legally defines a marriage is a contract between two opposite sexes and eliminates the right for gay couples to marry. At least in California, but California's a pretty big state, and San Francisco has a pretty pinkish community. So if it can happen here, it can happen elsewhere.

Now go and flock to your respective sides in pointless debates.

so obama didnt say anything about mccain? How about inaccurately pointing out that McCain was '4 more years of Bush?' McCain wasnt anything near him, but thats what Obama campaigned off of...and all the attacks on Palin. You're forgetting that a ridiculous % of stories about McCain/Palin were negative whereas considerably less were negative on Obama. Who was doing the smearing? Well, of course Obama could take the high road when the media did his dirty work for him. McCain didnt have that luxury

Maybe it'll be easier for Canadians and Americans to travel between the two countries? Not saying anything about the Mexican border but It'd be nice if it was a lot easier to get to and from America.

For me personally, I was still undecided between McCain and Obama. Obama has the ideologies, but McCain's character is also top-notch. You could tell even in his concession speech (ironically negated out by the idiots in his audience). But I voted Obama in the end, because god forbid (lol irony) we have a Creationist who doesn't know when to close her cunthole as our president in two years.
