I don't really see why Cops is getting so much hate for donating to charity. It's better to give than receive, and he is giving to one person who is giving to another. I think it's really cool that he and his girlfriend are doing that - I'm considering doing the same.

And as for all the heat you're catching for your gift, I really don't think you deserve it. I mean I know no girl in my life would want that gift, but each person has their own individual preferences. I would be pissed if someone got that for me, but that's me. If you're girlfriend is big into charities and donating and all that stuff, more power to her and nice gift on your behalf; that's just not me or anyone in my immediate circle.

Cops, despite the fact that bragging about making a donation in itself is pretty sad, It is actually a nice thing to do. However people are people, and your girlfriend might sit there and say "oh all I want is a donation to this charity". However it is the same when a kid sits on Santa's lap in a mall and asks for World Peace, and then shortly after asks for a toy as well. Instead of spending 125 dollars on a charity, how about spending like.. 50 on a charity and giving her a nice set of diamond earrings or something. I mean, I am sure your farts smell like roses and everything but still, people are people, and people want stuff.

Asking people what they want to buy their family/friends/loved ones for Christmas isn't bragging. Saying what I bought my girlfriend for Christmas, regardless of what you think about the present is no different then you saying what you bought your (dare I say loved ones?).

The gift isn't a card that says "I donated $100 to worldvision in your name". Instead it's a gift card that lets you choose how much you want to donate and to who. It's an interactive gift that isn't geared toward every person, I know that but it isn't a simple "hey you donated x amount of dollars to this charity".

So far I've only bought 1 gift. It's for my dad. I visited home for Thanksgiving and immediately realized he needed a nice Logitech Harmony universal remote. He just bought a DVR so I programmed all the buttons for him and showed him how to use it.

I have some ideas for everyone else...

Mom "hinted" about some jewelry from pandora-jewelry.com. Also making her favorite 7 seven layer salad.

Brother...he has every cool electronic stuff already, so probably something in the area of kitchen equipment that will help him make fast meals.

For 1 best friend, some lip gloss she loves from M.A.C. plus something else like that.

For 2nd best friend, I always buy her 2 or 3 outfits.

A few years ago my family decided it was too expensive to buy everyone gifts, so now my dad's side draws names out of a hat for each person. Then we just buy 1 gift for that side of the family (but we all still give presents to grandparents and the kids).

I got my 25 yr old cousin for the 2nd year in a row. I got him some really expensive golf balls with his name printed on them...now I have no idea what to get him this year.

My family decided the exact same thing, the cost was just getting outrageous. The only issue with the game we play is that it always turns into a battle for the alcohol, even when we said "no alcohol" people still went out and bought alcohol for Secret Santa.
