I like the idea of giving a donation gift, but isn't that You compensating Your guild, on the costs of Her present? She goes out there and get's you something that she thinks you can use, and you on the other hand give her something that will make you feel better.
Otherwise she would have requested that. Why don't you start donating every month.... ... like 5% of your income to a small organization in your local community (dog cannel or so). This way, your small amount of money actually makes a difference, and you see the result.
And, your girlfriend doesn't have to say 'oh thats nice.....'.
If anything, the least, you should have Asked for her to make a donation as the donation is Your gift, instead of giving it to her.
That's my 2 cents..
