    Agreed. I wasn't even losing that much when I was eating < 100 calories per day. As soon as you start eating again you'll gain it all back really fast, so you might as well (slowly) start eating again....

          No, I'm doing 1.5 hours of cardio every day and eating one serving of fruit every few hours. I used to be able to lose this kind of weight just by not eating but the times they are a changin'..... I thought that by exercising this much I would be hungry as a hippo but my appetite is nowhere to be found and I couldn't be happier. I'm not even taking any weight-loss supplements! It's just coming off naturally, thank goodness! But I appreciate the concern, guys, I really do. I'm trying to get back to a size 6 for New Year's Eve. My New Year's resolution is to BE skinny, not to start going to the gym!

            I'm not concerned about you at all. I just don't like it when people delude themselves.

            Eating a couple servings of fruit is till starving/killing yourself. Eat at least 1500 calories today, and every day from now on. If you don't do that, you are killing yourself slowly.

            Edit: A BALANCED diet is key, don't just eat fruit, or meat or bread or anything, eat it all together. Eat small meals, consisting of every type of food group; this is how you eat healthily.

            Double edit: For example: eat triscuits with cucumber and tuna for breakfast, have a snack of your choice before lunch, for lunch have scalloped potatoes and a go-to PB&J, eat a snack of your choice in between, then have a dinner of (however you like to prepare it) chicken & a vegetable. One of your snacks should be a rotating fruit. If you follow this model you will eat healthily and BE healthy.

                Acctually the best way to lose weight is to take up weight lifting and free-weights.

                Its very efficent at burning fat (better than pretty much any other exercise, cardio isn't terribly efficent) and it will leave you with a nicely shaped body, its a shame most women seem to think they will become all muscly by doing it, this is not true.

                Muscle size gain is not directly related to exercise. Exercising a muscle will tone it (ie making you less saggy) but you only gain muscle weight if you eat lots of protein (ie eat loads of meat).

                Also running too much gives you saggy boobs, seriously take up weights if you're serious about losing weight and forget about all these "fad" diets. Diets don't work, if you starve your body, it triggers a survial mode, it makes it think it needs to store MORE fat for the next time you starve it, so the more you diet, the fatter you get. You have to eat sensibly. eat 3 proper meals a day, no snacks and no sugery foods (no cakes, not chocolate, not coke) and no fake sugery foods (diet coke etc) fake suger acctually makes you fatter than eating normal suger, because it confused your body. Sugery foods are what make you fat.

                Then again i've told this advise to countless women who have called me an idiot and that "I know nothing", despite weighing less than them, because the culture of female dieting is such, it seems to be nothing to do with acctually trying to lose weight, but more as something to talk and complain about with your friends, or to punish yourself with, so you will probably just continue along your road of diet fail, rather than using the science.

                    I know I don't really have any room to lecture you about starving yourself... but you really shouldn't do it. I know it feels great to be in control and be losing all that weight just like that, but you really will be much happier once you stop letting your weight control your life. Really.

                    This. Last year at college I was afraid of gaining the freshman 15, so I ended up eating small meals throughout the day and making sure that I was balancing my diet. I lost a pound a month - which doesn't sound like all that much, I know, but I never visited the gym and started out as a size 5 - it was all weight lost just by eating healthy.

                    Couldn't agree more. I always used to just do cardio at the gym, but I've started lifting instead and I love it so much more. Plus, it's always fun to watch guys do a double-take when they see how much weight you're doing. :P

                      Theres plenty of information to suggest you should stick clear of artifcial sweetners. Not to meantion they give you cancer.... Real suger is better for you, but avoiding refinied sugers completely (ie avoid anything sweet) is one of the most effective ways to cut down on calory intake.

                        I've seen the research, but I've never seen what the research says in practice. I feel like a lot of that research is based on correlation with other events that cause weight gain - such as "Oh, I drank a diet pop, now I'm allowed to eat this donut."

                        I drink diet pop every day. That first article talks about how aspartame causes you to have sugary cravings. Well I just finished a can of Diet Dr. Pepper, and I'm craving celery. My roommates actually make fun of me a because I have chocolate that my boyfriend bought me a month ago that's probably going stale because I never have cravings to eat it. I actually haven't even opened it.

                        I feel like research like that needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Sure, if you drink diet pop and then reward yourself for drinking diet by eating something high-calories, of course you're going to get fat. If you work out then pig out, of course you won't be losing a substantial amount of weight.

                            Nutrition and weight training go hand in hand. Eating fruit is great for the empty calories after 6PM, as well as throughout the day itself. I will not lecture on meals and diet, but I will say that women should definately start hitting the gym after 25 and at least work out with light weights, core workouts...even do Pilates. Cardio workouts will only do so much for you. You can lose weight by dieting, but keep in mind that you also will lose Bone Mass as the years pass. 10 Lbs in a week is not all that much if you just started a diet, usually the weeks that follow will only show you shedding 1.5 - 2 lbs. That 1st week it is not all that unusual to drop 5 - 10.

                            Bone mass loss is one of the biggest problems women will face as they age, other than looks. Hunchbacks and brittle bones on women in there late 30's + is not all that attractive.
