i've never attempted to make a scotch egg and they would probably be disappointing if you are expecting a culinary delight, they aren't a classy snack here but i like them but then again maybe a home made one would be nicer than the supermarket ones that kinda let out a weird gass between the meat and the egg.
dunno if it's just some natural egg meat reaction gass or also some preservative neutral gass :P
anyhow sausage meat can be bought here and is basically whats in sausages ground pork + rusk + fat i think. You can just open up some sausages and dispose of the skins but i'd use half decent sausages if doing this not the super expensive or super cheap ones. (some recipes that use sausage meat say this too not just me )
Although I agree with you, I came across this image searching for 'thread police' and found it entertaining. If I weren't lazy I'd photoshop your head in or something but I don't think I have the technology to do it anyway.
