u can't prove something that's not true. i wondered the same thing, only using ninths (1/9 = .111~, 2/9 = .222~, etc.; so 9/9 should = .999~, right?). some rules have more significance than others, that being: when a number is divided by itself, the quotient = 1. u simply can't prove that .999~ = 1 because the two rules that define each contradict.
