if you're over 21, you MUST put Las Vegas on your list. Vegas is incredible for anyone with some money to burn, and fun to be had. they have a casino that is designed like the frickin NYC skyline...and they have a roller coaster on the top of the building. they also have one called the Venetian, which is like the city of venice, complete with waterways running through the inside of the building with dudes paddling in gondolas. Check out the Palms at night. they have foam parties in their clubs and the chicks there are hotties.
im a native californian, and the coolest cities to visit here would be Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe. you mentioned something about the beaches on both coasts...San Diego is great for that, and it doesn't get insanely hot there in the summer because it's right on the coast. nice nightlife too.
like wadi said, if you're planning on going from southern california to northern california, highway 1 (right on the coast) & 101 are beautiful coastal views. some of the most beautiful land in california is on that drive.

instead of heading down the rocky mountains from maryland to louisiana, stick to the atlantic coast. there's cool shit to do the whole way there, and you'll end up in florida. then from florida, you can hop on Interstate-10 and ride that all the way through alabama/mississippi and straight into new orleans in only about 10 hours.
louisiana is, by far, the worst state for humidity and heat. and especially since you'll be visiting here sometime in june, your pampered canadian ass won't stand a chance. the heat index will be in the triple digits easily during the day, and in the late 80's at night.

DC's great and all, but the traffic really sucks....so plan on that, seriously.
And don't listen to geekbot, however Skyline Drive does get old...you shouldn't skip out on it, at the very least drive 5 or 10 minutes on it, then turn around and get back on the highway. I just say check out VA cuz I'm from there:P However it'll probably be pretty hot and humid in the summer.
Besides, from MD to LA you're gonna have to go through VA, unless you want to add a few more hours on the trip.Ну вот...Comment

I'm in Seattle all the time and I've yet to be cut by BZ, so pay him no attention. If you're doing Beaches, hit them in Cali instead of Oregon if you can. The water's warmer, and the women are hotter (see Beachboys circa 1960-something for proof). You could, if you have time, take the 2.5 hour drive down I5 from LA to San Diego and add in the San Diego Zoo (best Zoo I've been to, amazing) and hit the very very nice beaches there. Hell, if you want to make it a whole North Am tour, you could even hit TJ and come home with a genuine Mexican STD as a souvenier!Originally posted by bloodzombie

You probably aren't planning on spending much time in Washington (can't hit everything on 1 trip...), but don't miss the Pike Place Market in Seattle, or a game at Safeco Field if you're in to baseball. Pac Bell field (San Fran) is also awesome, but if you are hitting baseball parks, skip Dodger Stadium (LA). It's not worth the hassle.
Oh! and try to buy gas in Northern California, all the gas in Oregon is Full Service :PComment

I should point out, that every road trip that my friends and I have tried to plan that involved us leaving the state never happened. Except for one that was literally a last minute decision (Thursday show in Charlotte). I do applaud you if you make it at least to Maryland. Go through New Jersey and watch the chemical plants go by. Go thru Florida to see old people. Go to nyc to see overcrowding in a melting pot. Go to yellowstone park to see all the dead trees that were engulfed in forest fires and maybe one or two deer/moose/bison, north midwest like in Utah and Idaho and couple other states. Into south to get shot at by hillbillies and hope you are not black.-L3Comment

nick, after washington state, head straight for banff national park, that place is freaking beautiful. at all costs avoid northern ontario. unless you like moose.
basically i'd go from banff, to calgary, head maybe for... yellowstone, wyoming, over towards chicago....Comment

Texas really isn't all that humid in June, neither is the southwest. Louisiana is probably among the worst of the humidity, so if you're going there, you can count on it.
If you're looking for sights, I reccomend the Monty Bay Aquarium as wadi suggested. Very nice place, I enjoyed it thouroghly. Also, if you get the oppertunity to either climb one or at least view the Rocky Mountains in Northern New Mexico or Southern Colorado, that is some VERY nice views and weather (70-80 F on a good day).
I hadn't thought of Mount Rushmore, is it interesting or will i just stare at the 4 heads for 15 minutes and leave?

Thanks for ALL the help so far guys, it's more useful than you could guess (especially the highway numbers and the like, so i know what road to take to get where. I still have alkot of research to do on roads, motels and the like (chances are due to money restriction i'm going to buy a van and sleep in that.)
