Help the basing community; let new people play ?go base

someone gave an idea somewhere in forums of a randombase with a bot that picks random people for 2 teams and starts the game

i know that could be hard to do but would work

it would be cool too if the person could message the bot with the number of ships he wants in.

you know this all for sure? I'm sure people thought they couldn't force people into 2 elims. If you had told people a few years ago that there'd be a pub with no levis some of them would have said 'thats a stupid idea, won't happen'. If enough people think my idea is any good then staff will eventually listen to the people, they have done it before.

By the sounds of this thread the TW basing community needs to increase its player population base. It appears most players in this zone spend most of their time dueling or mindless pubb'ing.

Well its funny, I look a year back at myself trying to figure this game ASAP. I figured I might find more info on these TW forums to help me out, and in 1 day 3-4 hrs (my 1st week playing this game) I wrote some silly TOTAL NEWBS tw help text with what I knew at the time. My heart was in the right place, I wanted to help others in my shoes; but ironically I got feedback and in the end learnt more myself.

Yet, when I posted in this unfamiliar place, I received many flames to my thread... I felt like a moron, and rather humilated. But I kept my cool, and remember by humilation you learn. But omg, some of the people that replied were rather nasty; like I felt a vibe of utter contempt for even asking for help.

True, if base elites frequent the pubs then the new players will learn in game experience; very good point.

By why don't some elites play in pubs? Cause they find it boring, too ez. They find it embarassing bad for their elite rep. I often observe elites chat, and they write stuff like go back to pubs you newb..etc.. And I think some of these elites care dearly about their online game reputation. If you ever go in pubs, you'll see some players on bigname squad with 0 pub stat recs.

Also some new players might be too lazy to use web based information based on the game, for example these forums to help them with game theory tactics knowledge. Or they feel shy to ask for help, cause they don't want to look like a new player.

Another thing, some elite players will not share any tactics/tips with a new player. Why? Because why should they, they wana maintain the edge over others so they have less competiional threats. And why should they waste their time on some new player? Well what I say above seems logical, but another opposite way of looking at it.. is sharing the knowledge might actually make the game more competitive and fun. This is complex and touchy subject, not just for this game, but in real life situation.

As for myself, I didn't care what people thought of me; I cared about learning , having more fun within this game and improving my game skills. Though I'am not a perfect players, and still have areas to improve in; my efforts in the end certainly payed off.

I remember I once got a 6-159 in ?go base when i first started, and i got flamed by Everest, less and less people start not playing base and chances are if this keeps going we won't have any new decent basing squads.

wr, pallies, diso, light, ns, paladen,cripples etc etc all were formed and functioning long before ?go base came around. Mostly before #mythrandir, as well. Basing can grow in the pubs.

As it stands, ?go base is more of a recruiting station than a place for new squads to grow.

lately, just to keep it fresh i started terring a little bit in pub on the attacking freq.... but its all javs, and as soon as u get in the flag the javs just start tking

imho the javs are far worse then the levi situation ever was.....

i think pubs are too hard for elites. they came to tw in the first place cause it was easy. after they become "elite" they cant stand pubs any more because they go there expecting to be the shit, and when they get killed like everyone else they get mad and leave.

actually people dont play base because shitty people play it more now.

there are so many people in there begging to be picked, and when one of them gets to be cap the whole game is ruined before it even starts.

you should pick a few people who you think are trusted caps, and only let them cap.

i reckon if we made basing more low key, it would improve the quality of play.

it doesnt matter in the slightest if the number of players goes down, as long as we maintain quality.

imo, there are too many games of base ruined by idiots who detach without looking and other such stupidity.

BasingCrew made a sister squad (Quirion) for themselves that attempts to increase the population of basers by recruiting and training new/pub players. And yes, I happen to be the Captain of that squad :P

You still need new players, because people do retire...

For the most part it's because people who don't know what they are doing are in pub.

Also, to practice for league games and base you need a twd/twl enviroment. You can only get so much practice terring/sharking/spidering in pub, because, although you get alot of stuff to dodge and shoot... you don't get the same thing your going to be up against in twd/twl.

Edit: If there was a pub with timed games. (One freq wins every x minutes, and freq hoppers are stopped) It might give so called vets a place to pub.

Of course, by having all the people who actually know what they're doing stop playing pubs, things will improve, right? People giving up on pubs are only looking at the short term, and only at themselves. If you look at the bigger picture, putting more focus on pubs is the best step we can take for the entire zone.

Think about this: the number of people playing in TW is higher now than it's ever been. At the same time, there has not been a equally dramatic increase in skills. When all the knowledgable players lock themselves away from the public, they're resigning the zone to a slow death.

Name a good base squad that came from pubs that didn't play ?go base at all. Rejected Basers is the only one that is even close.

The reason I don't play pubs is because it's not really a game that you can win. In pub, you just screw around forever and no one ever wins or loses. In base, elim, twbd, whatever, you either win or lose. I agree that if GuanoBot was set up so that it was kinda a ?go base arena that anyone can join, it would probably be a lot more fun.

I think the best way to make basing more popular would be to do this:

Change GuanoBot so that it starts a 10-20 minute Time Race game in Pub 0. Anyone can change teams, be whatever ship they want, etc. Basically, a free-for-all version of ?go base. I am sure it would become by far the most popular pub in TW, and it would really help the basing community and Trench Wars as a whole.
