I see absolutely nothing wrong with the logic behind the captain list provided by Ogron - just implement it and ignore these other idiots kicking up a fuss for absolute no reason. Having experienced players captain isn't about excluding worse players, it's about balancing teams so the highest quality of match can occur.

And there's hardly any ?go base going at all, anyone who shows up basically gets to play, so having (hopefully) the better players out of the bunch captain so the quality gets spread out evenly is only a good thing for everyone. And if there's no quality players who want to cap (which is, let's be honest 50% the case when Oderus/Ogron aren't around) still anyone caps, and we'll still have our good share of shitty 10-0 blow-outs, so don't you worry. Actually Ogron was quite friendly as he didn't request anyone to be blacklisted as cap (which is how he usually handles situations :P), 8 pages for a 30 second window...!

As Ricko said: implement it and close this thread. If, for whatever reason, it doesn't work out, we can always just remove it again in a few months...

quite frankly I agree with Claus. The first two years of me playing this game I never got picked for anything. The best squad I could?ve joined was Lambiet and Verify, until megaman89 took a huge risk and recruited me and spent countless hours with me in a private arena teaching me how to spider.

in those two years I didn?t post on forums and cry about not getting a fucking go base cap.
i got better and I learned the game.

First of all... if he's at 464 and most of the top captains are already the one's hosting a lot in the 200's and 400's then it seems like there is little issue about quality captains getting a chance to captain.

Second of all... pretty sure clause is going to come in here and complain when someone else has 200-400 captained games that it doesn't mean they are a quality captain. In other words, anyone can host 500 games especially if they played trench wars for many years. It doesn't necessarily mean they are a good player or a good captain.

Here's a list of everyone who's capped 5 or more times over the course of the 4686 games in the history of TW's ?go base. Works out to a total of 272 names (not necessarily unique, as it doesn't account for aliases or ZH/ER names).

Could use a hard cutoff number from here, such as needing to have capped X or more games to be on the vet cap list. Easy.

Or, could simply go down the list and put an X by each name you think should be on a vet captain whitelist. It's a pretty manageable size to review. If we had 2-3 base vets making their own whitelist on this sheet (link provides edit access for those sections), maybe we can come up with a decent list. This would also allow us to make sure we don't miss anyone important -- such as midoent, who has capped 413 times, the 2nd most of all time.

Another player PMs !second, and the !cap is accepted. Does not prevent trolls entirely (they just need an accomplice) but mediocre/unproven caps would not make it through this process. And unlike nominating, it makes it clear the person wants to cap, and requires only one person to agree.
