Like the 'Recycled Humour' problem, it was solved with its own sub-forum. So we could have a 'Retiring attention whore' sub-forum. Imagine all the 'Who?' people that would crop up there, not that being a relative unknown is derogatory at all. It would still be a waste of space, but you could argue this whole forum is a waste of space too.

Its all been said before but like these forums in general i'll say it again.

If there is a Retirement thread posted by someone you don't know, you don't have to open it. I don't see why it aggrivates you to the point you need to post a anit-retirement thread. If the person is looking for attention on these forums so be it, alot of crap threads have the same purpose... look at me i'm witty and funny and have the definitive opinion on everything!! -- is what most general forums are in essence about.

Just because you don't know these people or don't care about them doesn't mean others feel the same, you said that you would allow some like Epinephrine to make a thread. However where would you draw the line? Easy to say "an established member of the TW community" harder to define who falls into it. Also then having a mod make up rules on who can post a retirement thread or enforcing them is work.

The best solution is to make a seprate folder for them and move and post them all there so they don't clutter up other forums, but this is again work for the mods.

Ultimately these forums are jammed packed with useless drivel taking up space with some people making countless new topics that are worthless. I see little difference in the retirement threads, in fact at least they have a purpose.

I've seen InCure on TW a lot. Maybe he plays different parts of TW than you, but that doesn't make him less of an established member of TW than anyone else. People play different parts of TW--some people play base, some play elim or baseelim, some play TWD, some play pub, some play events. What makes people that play one of these any more established than people that play another?

I'm being biased here, but if its a person who has been playing for more than 3 years, I'd say a goodbye thread is in order. It doesn't take up that much more room, and if it really goes to shit after 20 posts or so, then it'll be moved anyways. It's not a big deal, really.

Rule, you are one of the exceptional few people that I'd allow to make a retirement thread since I don't really talk to you as often anymore but I did in the past and for some reason I actually care if you retire or not. But whenever an "InCure." or someone makes a thread, they're just being attention whores. To make my argument less personal, I'll state the fact that only an established member of the TW community should ever make an announcement of his retirement. Say Epinephrine? He could make one. Maybe Disqualifier? I actually think he made one already, or was it just for -FiNAL-, I forget. (if he made one for himself he should choke on something and die because I still see him on five times a week). I can't draw a clear line as to when a retirement announcement is just an announcement or a way to get people to notice you, but with Rule vs. InCure. the case is clear. And Rule, if you are indeed 'retiring' (means that he won't play anymore), please DON'T play anymore. If you fucking ever come back online again you're a complete whore for attention.
so basically your buddies are allowed to make them, but no one else is? incure probably had people who cared about him leaving and people who didnt, the same as anyone else.

I don't know, I certainly don't consider myself an established member of the vet community or anything, but even I think it's a lot more interesting when someone that has either done something for TW or accomplished something in TW retires, as opposed to some guy that I saw say "haha u newb" in elim a few times but that's it. I think part of why people hate retirement threads is that everyone kind of knows that if someone retires, they just stop playing. I stopped playing for the most part, and all my Subspace buddies figured that out, because I'm not on anymore. If InCure. either a) just stopped playing, b) told the people on his chats, or c) posted on his squad message board, I'm sure everyone who cares about InCure. would be able to figure out what happened. Wheras, in Rule's five years of actually accomplishing something in TW, there are a lot more people that might care about Rule from a long time ago that probably don't play that often but might check the boards. For the most part, I see most people that post retirement threads as people that are trying to quit, but probably won't. When people dissapear without any big show, they're actually successfully quitting.
