Could it be that the new players learn from the old ones?

I have been playing some in the public areas and it is sad to see the excessive use of "ez" "newb" etc.. however these terms have been around for as long as I've been playing (granted I didnt play beta, but I did play when it was payware...). They just appear to be more widely used now than before.

I agree. People on TW have always been like this. I haven't noticed a difference.

And saying "ez" or "newb" all the time isn't some innate thing--they have to learn it from somewhere--they simply learn from all the other people on the server.

I don't see anything that can be done about this.

Alot of my old pals aren't around anymore, but theres alot of them still around hiding on different aliases too... the only time I'm around people I don't know is usually in the morning, when all the europeans are on a tea break :grin:

oh, and yeah, i think i put too much focus on the ez/gg/newb stuff. what bothers me far more is the fact that the new guys seem to have little to no personality. they're a bland crew. where are the CoL's? the annux's? the digitalwave's? i'll put up with the other shit if only we had more cool dudes to replace the old cool dudes who've left. (fuck you WoW. you keep snatching people right out of their spaceships.)

I often think back to when I started, when i pubbed alot, when I had shadow conspiracy, when I got over a million points in 1 reset and was proud of it..

This game was so much more fun back then..

I stopped playing base, I stopped playing pubs, I often try to get back to playing in pubs, but after 5 min's I get bored.. I basicly just play belim, or chat nowdays.

Jason i hardly think you can say all these "newbs" have no personalities when you take a negative attitude towards them from the start and i doubt you have any in your chats and take the time to talk to them.

I've been playing for about a year and a 1/2 , perhaps there was some golden era before that where everyone was nice to each other , everyone knew each other and no one whined. However since i've seen alot of players from before then be the first to call me a noob becuase i killed them i doubt that it was that blissfull.

Indeed it has been the case that alot of people are too "elite" and snub the newer players and mock them that i'm unsurprised that if they kill you they will say ez etc... Not all the vets behave like this but i have certainly came across a few.

People will get older get other commitments and fade out of the game. It's not nice to suddenly realise that this has happened and that you are completely out of touch with a generation of players but that will happen if you only play with your friends in dd bd's etc

So perhaps its not these "new" players but the fact you don't know them and they don't know you so instead of being automaticaly respected (like your friends who left did) they regard you as an equal with that respect to be earned again.

So the question isn't what can be done to solve this "noob" problem, its can you adapt to not knowing as many people and watch the remainder of the people you know fade away?

I'M NOT TRYING TO PUT MYSELF ON A PEDESTAL. I DON'T THINK I'M "ABOVE" THE NEW GUYS.

now that that's out of the way, pressure, i have tried to get to know many a new player. i hang out in pubs routinely trying to organize a half decent attack/defense, and while i'm doing so i always try to chat it up with my teammates. my observations are that the newest generation of players are far more apt to either not talk at all, or you'll get a "stfu newbie" when you're just trying to help. it's more the first than the latter, which is what i really don't like. people really were just more friendly way back when. sure we still tossed around the insults, but we didn't argue about EVERYTHING under the sun. man, you can say something like "happy hannakuh" and within seconds have a half dozen players breathing down your neck about how you don't know shit about judiasm and don't have the right to talk about it. it's ridiculous. everyone's quick to jump on the defensive rather than just throw out a good 'ol fashioned 'how ya doin?'

so yeah, that's the shitty part. that's what i have beef with.

Every user name that is created on Subspace has a unique userid. You can find out your userid by typing ?userid. Userid's are created in chronological order. There are allready arena's that limit players by usage, so why not limit players by userid? For example, The name Offline's userid is 64124 - and was created in 12-18-1998 1:26:16. Now this other name, Pizza Delivery was created in 1-27-2000 4:9:48, and has a userid of 558082.
