  • i went about things the wrong way when i started this thread, expressing my distaste for the current state of things in the wrong way. i suppose i was a little confused as to just what exactly has become missing from the zone. it's the stand-out personalities as TK and others have said. i can and have put up with the shitheads, but it becomes difficult to do that when you don't have fun people to balance things out. project, i really try not to actually play the game too much anymore. it always leads to some form of frustration. i'm with rich. it's the community that i'm sticking around for. call me a nerd if you will, but i think of the friends i've made in this community just as i think of my friends in real life. i'm interested in what's going on in their lives. i enjoy talking to them, laughing with them, the whole nine yards. i may not physically spend time with them, but sitting on a chat with them now and again is sufficient for me.

i'm just being a nostalgic, stubborn stick in the mud at this point. and that's what i should have posted from the get go. i should have entitled the thread "our community is at an all-time level of suck" because that's how i truly feel. it's easy to misdirect your feelings when you're feeling shitty though.

maybe i need to start up a squad and fill it with pubbers. round up a bunch of new guys and continually weed out the bad eggs. it wouldn't be a competitive squad perse, but a squad of cool duders. then again, maybe that'd never work. maybe it's too idealisitic a goal. i really can't think of any other way to get in touch with the younger generation, to find the new fun people to replace the old fun people.

so yeah, anyway, i just want to reiterate and stress that it wasn't my intention to come off sounding like a vet with an ego. i don't think of myself as a vet. i don't believe in the concept. i'm just being a nostalgic, stubborn stick in the mud.

    • It was better when I knew people and people didn't know me

Now I don't know anyone and nobody knows me.

        • It's global apathy. Mankind is doomed, it was better when we were ignorant. Like in the sixties.

              • how the fuck did i miss this thread?

oh wait it's in one of the forums i have displayed not to show. it's a good thing i figured i should search my name after seeing me being discussed in 2 other threads without my knowledge.

Anyways to put it bluntly: I started playing TW in 2004...January. So yeah I'm new. But to also put it bluntly, people would be saying "who the hell is Jerome?" if you oldbies would do a better job of keeping the people entertained :]

Wind: I view the A-S thing as a free ticket to actually get picked in ?go base. I think by that point everyone was aware of my existence, Juice was a pretty in-your-face squad.

Anyways I like Jason's last post, because it spplies to me as well: I don't play the game. Which is changing, because I'm on a 'new' squad and I'll be around more (you oldbies might wanna come back to the forums, you might see alot of threads, think february 2004 ) and I've been basing more than ever. It's so weird to see people in-game playing, that i see on the forums and perhaps argue with on a regular basis, and in-game we play together.

Oh, and yeah, I logged on and apparently that Crimes guy who was banned took offense at my poking fun at his name and sent like 40 ?messages

                    • i think a part of the problem is that the majority of the cool people in tw hide on their chats now, i know our squad does. back when i first started playing in tw, cripples were the dominant cool/funny squad, a lot of them were on staff, putting out funny advertisements, and a lot of them were in pubs, doing funny stuff that identified them as having a sense of humor. they sort of helped draw me into tw when i was younger, if it had been full of the same people as eg, i probably would have just not picked up subspace again. now, nobody of any value ever says anything in public in the more accessible arenas. so, who represents our zone to people that first find it? lame-ass unfunny people that like anime way too much and spend lots of time hitting on internet "girls" and whiny 15-year-olds with aggression problems. why would anyone want to stay unless they fit into those groups?

                          • OK here is a history of Jerome for the haters.

                            2000: Wreckless MiG, DSB.
2001: Wreckless MiG, various non-SSC zones. Helps run SSXH.
2002: Wreckless MiG/Conceive: SSN Omega Fire. I start a TW pub squad with a friend, xUprisinGx. After a few WB kills, we go to DSB, and that is my pre-Jerome TW experience. I get SMod, then SysOp of SSNC Omega Fire, a position I keep for two years.
2003: Conceive (Omega Fire)/Scallowag (Death Star Battle): SSCN/CW/CX Omega Fire. During this time I meet ToKeD, who I hire as staff for Omega Fire. I also find out that my close friend Neal Blackman plays SS, as Purpose. He introduces me to Tonight/Spawner/Worm/Teach/etc. He gives me Jerome. I adopt it as my 'TW' persona, and register the name on forums. But I typo the email, making Jerome lost. So I register Jerome Scuggs. Thus I have TW connections, and sometimes even went to TW to watch them jav, but if you call that active commuity support then i'm divine rides.
2004: Conceive (Omega Fire)/Scallowag (Death Star Battle)/Jerome(Trench Wars): After Sass takes over Omega Fire due to my inactivity from the game, Omega Fire goes downwards. DSB is also changing, and I didn't like the changes so I slowly slid away from the game. I begin visiting forums alot, and this includes TW forums. My rep gets big enough to catch the attention of Machine of God, who finds me in SubSpace one day and invites me to join Juice. This was also partially because he knew I was Wreckless MiG, and when I spent those few hours in TW literally a few years ago I asked him to join our squad and he declined, so maybe he was feeling sentimental

I believe from there you know the rest. So yes - I have physically been in TW before that. Yes, Jerome wasn't MADE in 2004, but starting in January with 5 minutes of usage? Close enough. I came to TW in 2004 not expecting to make it my new 'home zone' (I had been trying a shot at SVS) and look where I am now.

                            • I used this game to counter an addiction to cocaine, and although I have met plenty of people that are way into this game, I've always tried to keep it simple, I haven't bothered to rank in years, I don't try to win, and from time to time I'll take a break just so as I can get my dick wet.

To me, it just seems like alot of people here ( not specified ) are stuck in some illusion of dream and a genre thats been more played out then pop music.
