What makes a good leader?
Interesting how the answer is different at work/in organizations than in a squad. I have only been in a few leadership positions but I know what I want in a leader. We probably all have opinions.
I want a leader that has vision- knows where a group should be headed and motivates/directs the group towards it. Understands the challenges- from moving up the ranks and/or keeping in touch with what the day-to-day problems are (without getting in the way). Is fair/understands people- the ones you are leading are people and you have to be able to encourage/resolve issues/etc well.
In subspace there can be a direction of a squad but it's generally less formal- winning TWL, etc. It's more important to help create an environment that's fun or focused on winning or whatever is appropriate.
Doing the dirty work/sacrificing is probably more important in Subspace. There's less of a heirarchy is Subspace, the "leaders" are also the one's in the trenches. I'd be a terrible leader because TW is my time to relax and be lazy, not spend time running a squad. Props to those guys (and staff) willing to spend time making it more fun for the rest of us.
Being fair/working with people is obviously very important (maybe the most in SS). Maybe the difference is squad leadership is "flatter" than companies or other organizations tend to be (if your boss can directly affect your salary, that quickly imposes a level of heirarchy).

Lemon must be goin nutz! No one actualy liked Wix as a leader :P He was just there and always mean =(
Those that r saying Dele&squadless. I'd agree if they could actulay keep a squad alive for a WHOLE TWL season. Somehow they always seem to get the same core of players every single time they restart a squad and they somehow always seem to have a good wb line no matter how many times they kill a squad._o_2NASRALLAH

I liked Wix, and he was always nice to me. He owned in virtually every ship, and I would rank he very high in all time best players in this game. While it is true that I might not rank him in the top squad leaders, I would say that he ranks higher than most.
I have seen him be ugly towards some players, but it was with keeping with the general Crips attitude of, "I'll start being nicer when you start being smarter."

Cig smoke and Rosstones did a good job for a while. and when cig is in the "leading mode" he does mega extra work to keep things running smooth. no staying power though as we all know.
and i doubt any of you know him, but heavensent did a great job keeping things fun and new for a 8 months or so.
Rand is good, but he has been hit with several sexual harrasment suits in the last few months.work it harder make it better, do it faster, makes us stronger more than ever hour after , our work is never over

Simply put, many players hide behind the anonymous nature of the internet and care little about anyone but themselves. They do not show loyalty, sportsmanship, or even basic consideration of others. What does it take to be a leader of these kinds of people? I would call that more a babysitting challenge then a leadership challenge.
