I think asking for 50% attendence from the entire league is not too much to ask for. 37.5% if you allow 1 non-team sub. The rules from last season had a 15 player roster cap for a 5v5 league which meant 33.3% attendence, only slightly less expectation than my proposal with 1 NTS. But with smaller teams you have more games to play and a greater diffusion of talent so that it's less likely for one team to completely dominate and discourage the other teams and cause them to break up. If you only have 2-4 teams it's really not a very good league anyway. I actually don't expect more than four serious teams even with 8 player roster caps but I think those four teams would be more dedicated than all four teams that you'd barely scrape together with a larger roster cap.

And I think if you allow people to play their league game anytime of the week when it's convenient for both teams and a host then by all means they should. In fact what might be fun is if we have a round robin league where you play each team three times and you can have your official matches in any order as long as you play at least one each week. Perhaps only have the playoffs be scheduled because then the interest would be high and spectators would want to come.
I have stopped swimming in the rock pools a few days ago. Now instead of 40 minutes swimming, I substitute it with 40 minutes power walk - usually on the beaches or around the cliffs. Nothing beats burning the fat in the cold wind. Colon minus pee.

Original roster cap of 15 made sense. The league I'm proposing will have two rounds each ten minutes long. So if you had say 10 people show up you could play two different lines. The rules state, or at least the rules I have written up, that you can play with four. There should be no draft, that would never work with SB. As of right now I don't think there is enough interest to have a workable league anyway. The only way to create the interest would be to have hosted games every couple days. And to start training some SB hosts. Staff has not been very supportive in the past so if we are not given the tools to maintain the league ourselves it will never happen. I think I'll post the version of the rules I submitted to Left_eye so everyone can comment and if need be I will revise it.

              ----- Strikeball Rules v 1 -----

1.0 Strikeball games consist of 2 teams each with 5 players and unlimited substitutes during each round. During Season games will be 2 rounds, 10 minutes per round. During playoff games will be two rounds to 15 minutes. Break in between rounds is max 5 minutes. Teams need at least 4 players to be allowed to start any game, a fifth player can be added after the first five minutes of play if one is available. Teams may use 5 players against a team that has only 4.

1.1 Each round starts with all players on the side opposite the goal they can score on. Players must be outside the center circle on their side of the half court, and not in the safe zone. The ball is placed in the center circle, and the ref starts the game. Taking the ball before GO will result in a warning! Ball will be reset, and game started over. Interfering with the ref placing the ball will also result in a warning.

1.2 Three warnings for a team, and the player who gets the third warning is removed from the game and the team will have to continue the round without a substitute for each player removed. So if a team has 5 players and 1 player is removed, that team has to continue with 4 players in the game, regardless of how many subs they have. Substitutes can still be made for any of the 4 remaining players.

1.3 Any player that is scoring from outside the goal and the ball is phased / lagged out, gets a warning. The score counts.

1.4 No player can be inside the outer-goal when the ball is on the opposite half of the court. This means no cherry-picking, any player caught doing so will be warned. No player at anytime should be in the inner-goal, unless the ball gets stuck inside there and has to be retrieved. Players intentionally going inside the inner-goal to prevent goals by the opposing team or to score, will be warned.

1.5 There are infinite lag outs; however, you must wait 30 seconds to re-enter after a lag out. If the Ref decides that a player is not able to play in the game, the team must then replace him or continue with the players they have left in the game.

1.6 Teams that begin a game with 4 players but lose one player to lagouts, can continue playing with 3 players for 3 minutes, at which time if a fourth player is not available they will forfeit that round. A forfeited round results in a 10-0 score against the forfeiting team. At that time the players have an additional 5 minutes to gather enough players to start the second round. If there are still not four players available then the second round will not be played and the game is a forfeit resulting in no goals being recorded. Only if a team manages to finish at least one round will the score be recorded.

1.7 The team must have notified the ref who their 1st sub is, in order to replace any lagged out player. If a player lags out and the ref is notified, the sub from spec is put into the game ASAP. When a player is lagged out and in spec, they are still eligible to be put back in the game.

1.8 When a team has more than four players, they must submit their lineup for each round, players can be switched before the start of a round, and a fifth player added. If both teams agree to play with only four, then a fifth player cannot be added for that round. When no such agreement is made a fifth player can be added by either team after the first five minutes of play.

1.9 Spawn-killing is allowed, except before the start of a round. (Use repels to get away!)

2.0 If no one from a team is present, it will go as 'no show' and they will receive -1 pt for their league-score and the opposing team will win by default receive a score of 1. Any team that has a minus record for 2 weeks which is 2 'no shows, will be removed from the league. At this point another team can assume their place with a score of 0.

2.0 The statistics for each game will record goals for and goals against for each team. A win is worth 2 points in the standings. A loss is worth .5 points. A forfeit is worth 0 points, and a no show is -1. Win by forfeit or no show is worth 1 point.

2.1 The top 4 teams, after every team has played each other once, will be entered into the playoffs. If two teams are equal in points, the winner of their regular season meeting will be a spot higher in the rankings. The 1st ranked team will play the 4th and the 2nd the 3rd. The winners will then meet in the championship game.

2.2 If a team is not present with at least 4 players, within 5 minutes after the game scheduled time, they will forfeit the game by default. If both teams have less than four players, it will be counted as a forfeit for both teams. When a team shows up with less than four players it is always considered a forfeit, even if the opposing team is a no-show.

2.3 All players must be on their team roster, and squadjoined to play, the Ref should have rosters printed out so they can check if new players coming after the game starts are eligible.

2.4 No double squading is allowed. Any player caught double squadding is banned from the league.

2.5 Games are decided by the team with the most goals, teams do not have to win by 2. If at the end of two rounds the score is tied, there will be a 5 minute overtime. If the score remains tied throughout, there will be a sudden death round between one player from each team. The ball will be placed in the center of the court, and the two opposing players must be touching there own goal before the ref says go. The first to score wins.

Actually I would also like to say that a 3 v 3 mini tournament would be a good idea to create interest. We could organize the event and have short ten minute games being hosted in multiple arenas. The details could be worked out later if everyone agrees on it.

I like it, no more walking or goal campers from either team on both sides.

We could make walking impossible by modifying the goals for league play.

please, modify the goals. it'll make the league much more exciting when i can't shoot the same shots i'm used to. Also, it never makes sense to go into the goal for defense.

I don't know. I think goal defense is important because it stops easy goals. I wouldn't want to change anything.

Left_eye has told me that Dock> still needs to give Maverick access to the SB website so it can be modified to post new rules and setup rosters and such. As soon as that happens the ball will be in motion, so to speak.
