Basing Draft Cup

Was just reading through the whole BWC thread (all 2 pages of it) and got some ideas. I agree that it sucked having the same team win year in and year out, so why not mix it up a little?

A) Decide how many teams to participate in a tournament. (8, 12, 16 etc)
B) Assign a captain and an asst to each team, regardless of where they're from, or what squad they are in.
C) Have anyone interested 'Register' or 'Sign up' to play.
D) Have the captains of each team do a "Draft" out of the player pool that registered to play. 20-25 man rosters maybe?
E) Breif amount of time for trades n shit. (1 week?)
F) Tournament (Winners and Losers Bracket)
G) Based on standings from previous tournaments, will be the order of pick for the next one. (Last to First)

Side Note: Salary Caps?

I doubt I'm the first to think of this, but I wasnt about to troll the entire forum looking for a similiar topic. This would give us basers something to do in the twl off season to stay competitive. I highly doubt anyone would let me head this, considering I think staff should suck my nuts, but I'll volunteer anyways if the interest level is high enough. Discuss.

Edit: Would the bot we used for the weekend event 'Pub Hunt' work as a registering tool?

the main problem with the previous draft leagues was that the draft-teams had to play 3 leagues. there aren't even that many regular squads out there who can perform well in 3 leagues, and since the draft league isn't as popular as the twl-league, there simply weren't enough good players on each team to be able to have a good competition.. and good players don't like to have to play on a team with 2-3 bad players.. and since it was quite impossible for a captain to get enough depth for 3 leagues, they'd get a sucky team in 3 leagues (for which the good players didn't even bother to show up, making the team even suckier), the only solution for a captain was to just let one or two leagues go during the drafting and emphasize on one league.. which is why a pure basing (or dueling/jav) draft-league might work a little better than a 3-league-drafting league.

other issues with previous draft-leagues:
- immature players signing up who refuse to play for the team they were drafted in (because they want to play for a certain captain or with certain people or not with certain people), which can result in quite uneven teams..
- bad captains, some captains were just terrible in picking people, they picked very inactive players who happened to have signed up for the hell of it etc. or hardly showed up themselves on match-day..
- weird drafting-system, the first pick shouldn't be for the same team every round.. with 8 teams easiest would be uneven round-picks 1-8 even round-picks 8-1..

the setup of previous draft-leagues seemed pretty okay. imo it should be kept simple, there shouldn't be a waiver-list or w/e for people who signed up too late at most those who didn't get picked could get picked later on if teams feel they need replacements/a bigger roster, aliases shouldn't be allowed to sign up, no trading allowed (this way less annoying fucks will demand to be traded very cheapily to another team or refuse to play instead)

i'd be interested to play if someone (sumpson, zerz?) will draft a benelux-team which will own the whole league/cup, like benelux always owns every basing-event..

That last comment kind of opposes the whole purpose I want to do this. I dont want 1 team to dominate the rest, I'm sure I'm not alone in that theory. The idea with this would be a 1 league tournament, not 3. If anyone else wants to run with the same idea for the other leagues, then fine, but since basing is the only thing I'm halfway decent at anymore, its the only thing I would want to participate in. I'm going to see if I can get a poll for this, and take it from there.

i like the last draft league i played in ^^

i get bram's point though as in i think i was added in a dd - i had glare on my screen aswell - but i wasn't ment to be a starter in it i'm pretty sure and went something like 1-9 :P

however the rosters where big ! and i liked the fact it was over 3 leagues,

not sure when it happened i might still been on 56k modem - yea must off been so i sucked at it -as long as good caps were picked i'd like to see it again



for me the positives is it gets more intrest in the leagues - i.e. you see this adverted you sign up, if you get picked or even if you don't, you get teh idea TW has more about it and you can watch some goodguys duke it out, not the quality of twl but not many get to be in a twl winning squad and this can creat interest .



however last i seen tw draft tourney was scrapped in favour of strikeball league

I am now trying to get this worked through with ECT. Right now I think the biggest concern would be people thinking that this would take away from the "glory" of TWL, but from the minimal input Ive read so far that doesn't seem to be an issue. As for the whole uneven trades, friends wont play without other friends, etc...That can be resolved with a simple "Don't like the team your on? Then you won't play" I'm sure if this generates enough interest, there will be plenty of people to replace the nerds that won't play without their butt buddy, while also avoiding the pages upon pages of useless rules for TWL. I hope this attracts new talent to compete in a higher level than pub, in all 3(4?) leagues of play.

The Draft League in EG is very successful and actually a big event there. It's annual and players look forward to playing in it; yes, even the elitists.

Then again, TW doesn't really have someone who can organize it at the level EuRa has...
