Reason for the lack of inactivity in trench wars is the ever growing internet gaming availability for other more graphical games, when subspace began, there was no xbox live, no world of warcraft and connections weren't above 56k to use more detailed games. What do we do from here? Well advertising hasn't helped so far, ingame community seems still hostile towards new players which could do with some work, perhaps graphically improving this game is maybe the last hope, Also I think cutting down on twls would be a idea, its being played so often its losing its magic and spoiling twd significance, which then lead on to excluding new players. Also perhaps introducing nationality based competitions? Wouldn't everyone like to see Finlands five finest players do battle agaist America's finest in warbirds? I would. Call me a twit for my ideas if you don't like them, but atleast im thinking

Nothing can really be done about the attitude of players, this game will have to survive with them in here; that's that.
Forget graphics, if they got any better or any more complicated, I would drop the game like a bad habbit. I play this game for:
1) It's simplicity
2) It's chat system
a) Constant "LOL" on chat (I am soley responsible)
b) The constant annoying "pew pew" on chat (I am soley responsible)
c) The constant immature comments made like (my pee pee is broken)
d) The usual "llololol lookat these newbies rof lthink so godo"
Last but not least:
3) TWL.
a) I like TWL simply because of the excitement/fun/surprise of it being there and the tension etc etc. It's losing all of those things by being held as often as it is. It felt like we JUST got out of a TWL season, and were pretty much ready to go into another one so soon after, almost "prematurely". Like a fetus delivry about a month too soon.
I believe there has been an attempt from someone else to create a squad like metal but failed. (I honestly can not recall who put forth the effort). Who it was though is irrelevant, however more squads like this shoul dbe formed. Most of the general public in the ?go pub arenas are NOT aware that such a thing as "TWL" even exists, let alone TWD. I guess it would be great for more squads like Metal to come up, literally grab players from public to see if they are interested... let them know that there is more to the game than pubbing. Let them know that there IS a higher level of competition that they can easily be involved in. In this game getting into higher level of competition isn't complicated, and it is not a long hard process. It's as simple as focusing on a ship and joining a half-decent squad to enjoy competitive play in TWD. Most players in pub who are new to the game (I'll talk from personal experience)
1) Did not know TWL existed, did not even know about TWD.
2) Didn't realize the purpose of a squad in TW
3) Didn't know there was a list of arenas until I accidentally pressed escaped and pressed "A", went to ?go twdd and notice "hey cool 2 squads going at it.. oh well probably takes TOO much work to get there" or "don't know what to do to get there, screw it"
It was by sheer luck that I found out about those things, and actually got involved in them by being put forth in the right direction by some random chance outta the blue... if chances are THIS slim for every player in pub, then yea ppl will lose interest because they believe there really ISN'T more to the game than that pub arena they've spent a month in.
A problem with TW at the moment:
The fact that even TW STAFF doesn't realize that every person who palys this game isn't someone who goes online to find out more information on it.. Most people just download the game, and expect to play the game and learn things about it from being inside the game it self... However when it comes to TW, it seems you NEED to know essentials such as these:
1) The forums here
2) The website trenchwars.org
3) Rules on registering
Most games these days you can just purchase and play without having to do any of that.. because all of those things up above are taken care of INGAME and usually do not require you to goto a website outside of the game.
Not every one knows the rules.. when I first started TW about 6 years ago, I had 7 registered names and was in about 4 squads. I honestly did not know i was breaking any rules until one day I got a pm by someone with this odd and mysterious "ZH" tag, who eventually let me know about those things. I was lucky that I was not banned, instead just informed on TW policy etc etc.
Although recently I do believe these 3 issues have been fixed with different arenas containing different links to websites responsible or that have significance TO that arena, which is great.Last edited by Purple Heart; 02-12-2008, 01:13 PM.TWLD Finals Champion Season 12

Just a few thoughts:
The site which used to record and save everyone's score (http://edome.fi.soneraplaza.net/subspace/scores.html) is down and has been down for over a year. Is it possible to get this or something like it back up? If not could we record the scores with bots and then set them up on a website? Records for TWD, ?go duel, tourny, etc. are all put up on the website, why not pub scores, ?go base, wbduel, javduel, etc? Some new stats for TWD would be nice as well, such as bullet/bomb accuracy and player ELO rating (see stats.svszone.com)
A ?go tutorial arena would be a nice way to teach new players how to play.
A new TWL website and format is needed. Right now you have 12 teams and the worst team has to play 11 teams that are better than them, that can't be very fun for them. On the flip side the best teams have to play most of their games against teams they are way better then, creating lopsided/boring games. I suggest we change the format to a pyramid one, like is used in Premier League (the Chaos/League Zone SVS league.) This would allow us to increase the number of squads in TWL and getting more people involved would increase the competition of the league over time.
An example of why this format is better is the squad I'm in for premier league called skyrakers. There were 20 teams in the league last season and my squad was probably the 3rd worst team. We had are chance against good competition early in the season, got beat badly, then we got to play much easier teams and got some wins. We finished 6-6 I think, where as if you're say the 3rd worst team in TWL, you're going to finish about 2-8 and likely drop out before the season is over. Also their were three tiers, pro, intermediate and amateur, each tier having there own playoffs (and everyone in that tier making them.) Having every team make the playoffs in their respective tier helps keep activity up and prevents drop outs.
Pascone has said that the next TWL won't start till fall at the earliest...which I think is way too long to wait. 3 or 4 months from now would be good.
Another big issue is advertising. There doesn't seem very much being done. There was talk about setting up a donation fund and using it for paid for advertising, I think this is a good idea and someone (probably from staff?) should get on it asap. Also getting all the zones involved would probably be better, since more people involved = more donations. There are also plenty of free ways to advertise. There are probably thousands of forums which are related at least somewhat to video games, anyone can go and find some and make a post advertising this game. I've done this a few times myself but the more people getting involved and doing it the better. Winning game of the month on mpogd.com was a good thing I believe, but it took some initiative by someone (me) to make a post about it in all the zones forums to make it happen. Whether it be ordinary players or members of staff, having more people take initiative to help advertise this game can only help.

I think having a tutorial in the installer is probably better than having a tutorial in ?go tutorial.

From what they said it was the graphics, not the community or game play style that drove em away.
I will however make sure to spread the word on my ?chats about this meeting..hopefully we will get some good mojo flowing in tw.
