Hello people of Trench Wars,
The issue:
For approximately the past sixth months we have been without the Robo_Ref bots in our elimination arenas(elim and baseelim). These bots were originally coded by PriitK and ran independently on his server which we currently don't have access to. We've been without contact with PriitK for some time now which is why we are unable to turn the bots back on or retrieve their source code. For the time being we put in place an old and rather buggy substitution bot until we could discuss a more permanent solution. I have recently been assigned the task of solving this issue and have a few ideas on how we might not only accomplish it, but also build upon and add to it. Staff decisions are not democratic; however, your opinions are highly valued which is why I feel you should be informed about what is going on and allowed to ask questions and share ideas.
I recently took a poll to see how the community would feel about merging the two elimination arenas into one. The majority felt that they should not be merged; however, a large number of the population suggested that it would be beneficial. I am going to assume that the people that responded positively to the idea did so because they would like to see baseelim become active again. I feel I have an unbiased view point as I have no interest in being a javelin or warbird, and I have tried to look at both sides of the argument logically. That being said, I have come up with a potential solution that I feel will benefit everyone's interests. It should not only keep the elimination arenas separate, but also make baseelim more active and make both arenas more entertaining in general. This solution is still in the developing stages which is why I would like to run it past you and get some feedback.
No matter which route we eventually choose to go, it will involve coding a new and improved bot for the elimination arenas. I hope that you can understand that I am a Biology(Pre-Med) student with a full load of hours and I merely do this as a volunteer hobby. Your patience is appreciated while whatever solution that is decided upon undergoes development. I will try to keep the community as up to date on my progress as possible.
The proposal:
My idea is this: instead of merging the elim and baseelim arenas, merge ?go javs with baseelim and ?go warbirds with elim. This would consist of making two new maps with two separate bases each. When not competing in an elimination match players could play casually in the separate base until the next game begins. Hopefully this would allow you to spend more time playing and less sitting around, promote the warbird and javelin communities whilst keeping them separate, and restore baseelim to its former glory.
There is a lot about this plan that needs careful consideration. I have already anticipated a few questions as to how exactly this would work. I will try to answer some of them now, but please add to this list with your own questions, comments, and suggestions.
Again, this is only a potential solution that needs further discussion. Please reply with comments, concerns, suggestions, ideas, and nonsensical ramblings or e-mail them to me personally.
Cheers,

- How will players distinguish casual play from competitive play?
The bot would have a simple command(e.g. !play) that toggles whether or not a player would like to participate in elimination. When a new game is beginning all players that have enabled the !play command will be moved to the competitive base and notified by way of private message. When they are out they will be moved back to casual play and notified when the next game starts. Players that have not enabled the !play command can simply play casually in the regular base without being bothered. - Will the bot reset players' scores when they play in elimination?
No, players will be able to keep their records and add to them. This will also provide warbirds the ability to have records to show who is the oldest and best casual player. The bot will never reset any player's scores under any circumstances. When players that wish to compete begin a new game the bot will remember their wins and losses and display it for them on a score tag much like the scoreboards in TWD matches. Wins and losses in elimination matches will add to the player's general record. - What about streaks, barwarp, and scorereset?
Barwarp will be built into the bot for the javelin arena. I'd appreciate feedback on whether both bases should have barwarp or just the casual base. Scorereset will be available in both arenas in case you do want to reset your score entirely. Streaks, however, require some discussion. I was thinking that perhaps streaks should be displayed in arena messages for the casual base(as they currently are in ?go javs) while streaks in elimination matches could be sent to players participating in that elimination match via private message. I could also improve streaks by adding more names for longer streaks and displaying player names that end relatively large streaks. I may also include a feature that zones for players that have won multiple games consecutively. - Will there be player ranks?
Yes, both the javelin and warbird arenas will have player ranks. I will try to put a more interactive and functional website together that can display player stats, streaks, and other features(this would be after the bot is completed which could be some time from now).
Again, this is only a potential solution that needs further discussion. Please reply with comments, concerns, suggestions, ideas, and nonsensical ramblings or e-mail them to me personally.
