Staff: elections and axing

There are a lot of things that could be posted such as league information and other general stuff happening. The PR position requires someone to take a proactive approach to it and I got caught up on the other side which was dealing with internal problems within staff and eventually I became a dean of staff which takes up most of my time online. With the restructuring of the way staff works I don't think it needs to be an automatic smod position which would make it easier to find someone who's both capable/willing and can be trusted. Staffers should be held accountable for what they do and if they are axed it should be explained openly. That's one of the things I pushed for when I took over from Moot.

Understandable, I did forget that you got promoted to a dean position. Now that you remind me I feel a tad bit overcritical, but then again it just highlights where PR ranks on staff priorities.

Other things you guys want like ban details and other things. We have always kept that off the forum and in-general out of the public eye because it has the potential to cause more problems then it solves. Complaints also because it tends to cause too much clutter on the staff forum and the issues often do not involve more then the person registering the complaint and staff.

The case made regularly about releasing ban information is that squad captains would know their names and the public could "shun" them, helping prevent more people from trying it. There are a couple problems with that, 1. If you're a decent squad captain and are active enough information gets around, 2. people who use cheats are banned the first time for 365 days and the second time for life, 3. There's no way for the average player to tell if an aliased person is in fact a known cheater.

I believe it was Vehicle pushing for this not me, and I am in agreement that there is probably more trouble ahead if you were to make this knowledge open to the public rather than keeping it within staff. More along the lines of what I was looking for is some sort of list of current projects of staff with short explanations and what stages they are in. Something that is updated weekly or bi-weekly that is set up to both give the general public easy access to what is going on and an easy route to get involved. They could even input ideas and potentially make something better. I'm much less concerned with bannings and that info, I feel that is something that should remain within staff (TWD bans I am a bit more iffy on). However hirings/firings, projects and easy ways for community to get involved, and some more public input on leagues and hell maybe even staff grades. At my job currently we are having evaluations (not saying staff is a job), but maybe staff should have evaluations. Not just on performance, but on actually knowing your job and your mental capabilities. I am sorry, but some people have the brain of an ant in staff.

Edit: And to add one last thing, as much as any one person can do from within if you guys want to know something or have a problem, it can't always rest on one person to seek you out.

This varies dependent on which staffer you are talking to. Some will be highly helpful and help you on your quest for whatever knowledge you seek, however there are some high and mighty staff members that even if you are polite just like to be a prick. Or do the whole "Thats classified talk to this person" that person sends you to another who sends you to another who wants you to talk to someone who's on once a month while you sleep. Some staff just no longer functions as a service to the people, they are merely in it for the power, self glory and gratification, and raising to the highest rank you can so you can stop taking shit and start shitting on others. That is horse shit in my eyes and back in the quota days it was even worse. Betterment of the zone seems to be and afterthought to most, and that's why I left staff long ago. But hey /end staff hate rant here, the above part is more on topic.

My goal for this TWL was to communicate with the player as much as possible, and include players in the decision process. If there are areas you want to know more about, or things I need to cover better, lemme know.

HMS, keep your useless posts to forums like General Discussion and Trash Talk where they belong. You're not adding anything to the discussion, as a matter of fact you're just being a bumbling idiot whose only use is to host events. I really really tried to just ignore you on forums, much like I do in game, but you're about as useful as wark or money.

As far as making bans public I would have to change my opinion to agree with you Kolar. It really doesn't provide anything to anyone because, as you noted, the people who need to be in the know are usually in the know.

I was, however, only mentioning the publication of bans as an example of a way to be more transparent. I think publishing hirings/firings and the reasoning behind them, and maybe even staff applications once someone is hired, is a good idea. So is a general update of what's going on in TW and what's upcoming.

Overall: I'll take anything that increases our transparency as an entity. As much as staff loves to say "we're just volunteers, this isn't a job," it is pretty much an unelected governing body and the more transparency you have the less people who are going to be pissed off.

I think that this current twl has not has not made the players feel as disconnected from the staff that runs it. That is a vast step in the right direction. For once we don't have someone who runs TWL like they are the BanG op. The people actually should have some input or say in how things are run, and have an easy outlet to communicate that. I'm so glad that it is not run by someone who has a rudy mentality. I love rudy to death and he does his job perfectly imo, but his "you're an idiot, you're still banned, don't care about excuses" mentality is not one that should be heading divisions or PR or anything that is meant to deal with public on a personal level.

I believe vehicle and I started talking about PR 3-4 days ago, and we only have Kolar fairly helpful explanation and opinion and a solid example in Mirr's post. No information on if this is even going to be addressed or why it is that will be addressed or much interest on the side of staff. Further proof of the disconnection between staff and the players.
