I wouldn't want to see us taken over by a branded commerical interest. I remember very well what happened with SOE and Jeff Petersen's other game, Infantry.
Also, SS was owned by the now defunct VIE, but I'm reasonably certain that the rights still belong to whomever bought those liquidated assets long ago. Whoever bought the assets has let Priitk do the good work of maintaining this as a community based, free game. But, it's playing with fire to consider selling what isn't yours to a commercial interest.
In my opinion (and it's only that, opinion) I would recommend leaving things as they are now and be thankful that whoever bought VIE's liquidated assets hasn't come a knocking in all this time.
As for clones, if rapidshare had a decent clone, they wouldn't have even emailed the community. It's all smoke and mirrors.

how can we NOT accept this deal? What needs to be done is send an email back to rapidshare stating what our community would want and state the kind of control we want to keep over the game.
ROFL....are you serious? WE have no say, it's not owned by the community of forum and game players.
I must admit that you really do come across like Butters....could be the avatar as well....but thanks for the good laugh. BTW...I have no investment into this game...and what is your definition of "Skilled"?
I would suggest you talk directly to someone like...Priitk, afterall he does own and run this damn game. Not sure if he may fit that "Skilled" category though.

Competitiveness sucks nowadays and TWL is hardly fun anymore. Player base is down. Skill is down. Servers suck. Lag is rampant. Nothing gets fixed. Nothing but shitty events are hosted. Aside from the community what the hell is actually right with this game now?
This is EXACTLY was SS needs. All we have to do is state to them that we want to have control over this new game.

I'm not sure why people are saying "I vote..." because it doesn't matter what you vote. You don't own the game, none of us do, Priitk has the say if he wants to actually sell the game. He doesn't play the game anymore and it's been nothing but a little stub on the end of his bill, so I don't see why he wouldn't sell it, unless for nostalgic reasons.
I agree with the person that made the point about so many people playing though, one thing these other games don't have that continuum has is that you actually get to know some people in this game. In games with 10,000+ people playing you won't see the same person twice for awhile.
I don't really think much will come from this, if they decide to make a clone it probably won't really be close enough to SS for players here to go and play it. And even if it is a pretty close clone, like others I suspect there's some business motive behind it.

you're never have to pay to play continuum in its current form.. Its expressly forbidden in the software licence. Of course a new client/game might be p2p, but the status quo is guaranteed to be free.
Extracts from the Continuum Licence bit everyone just clicks ok to :P

I have yet to ever hear or read anything positive about rapidshare.com The one most common complaint was about bandwidth and server/hosting problems.
Rapidshare is all about making money, as is any business. If you really think this will be hosted for free and not be a pay to play game...your nuts. I can't see them charging all that much for the game, but if they do you either pay or most likely the game will cease to live and they will end up owning it.
You gain some top servers and new ownership that will most likely not give a rats ass about the community that has been built up over the past decade. It may be time to pass the torch to Rapidshare, but I also see the most likely situation that the torch will be put out rather Rapidly.
BTW...how much did Rapidshare lose in that lawsuit for copywrite violations on P2P?

Guest repliedWhat are 'we' actually looking for, someone with a lot of money?
So what if I were fucking rich, millions and millions. What if I would pay for the servers and shit, would that help tw? We still need extra players so ...

What if they allready had a so called clone of ss, if you was in there shoes you might want to remove competition or gain what little players that play ss.

If a new programme to copy the game, so more max players and better servers, this means new names and that? so i'm on to take your name! :POriginally posted by Maverick View PostInteresting, very interesting. Seems things are about to be changed (one way or another).
As others have already said, I'm also fearing the things they aren't saying (commercial oppertunities) and I wonder what will happen to TW, staff, server, etc. .
There is alot to change if things are going to be different and honestly I'm not waiting for extra work (unless we get something out of it).

Since this game is already dying I don't think it's a good idea to just reject ideas that has the potential to reviving this game. Our servers are already failing, there's alot of players with no prior problems with lag that suddenly gets specced in TWDs.
Too early to say anything about this yet, but I do think it's fucking stupid to say no already just because of paranoia.
