i'm with soupero on this, this game just needs 500-1000 extra players, it doesnt need thousands extra ones. the relatively small community is what gives ss its charms!

ooh and couldn't this all be one big joke anyways?

I vote no. We have nothing to lose by keeping to ourselves and everything to lose by joining them. In the email he wrote it seemed nothing less then piracy. Like a "if you dont give in to us, we already have someone wanting to copy your game." This deal seems rather fishy and nothing less then just trying to duplicate us onto a new server.

"I still hope we can get this deal running, as our staff is already negotiating with a software programming studio to just clone the whole Subspace thing."

"we have the money to hopefully solve the legal issues."

Guys seriously, yes tw was much more fun a few years ago BUT I like it how it is nowadays, only thing that needs to happen is that we need 50-100-200 more active players and everything is cool.

I don't want to enter TW and find 10 000 people online, I kinda like the close interaction. :turned:

    Too big =/= fun
    Too many people =/= fun
I want to be able to trash staff!!!! oMG IM SO COOL

I want to be able to do stuff and eum yeah.

OH I won't pay for this game, then I'm out.

Why would they be interested in commercialising a free game with less than 1000 active members? I doubt they have some hidden agenda to make it Pay2Play.
A site like rapidshare wouldnt need to have any direct income from the game, either P2P or restricting access to rapidshare account holders. The promotive aspects of joining SS with games.rapidshare would be viable in itself... That is if people actually started playing it.

I wonder if the current administrators will be willing to give up their devine power in the interest of the game..

I'm just wondering how zones would be divided and how they would be run.

Staff as it is today would be an impossibility. Rudy for an example. Regardless of his fine work for TW and SS, his attitude wouldn't work out if the game was owned and actively run by an active company (this goes for the majority of TW and SS staff).

    Amusing idea none the less.

it's probably similar with other games, where it's free to play, but you pay for premium content, ie special banners, shipsets, and entry into big tournaments and whatnot.

i highly doubt RS is dumb enough to get people to pay to play a decade old game.

and it doesn't seem like there's much connection between a game like SS and their file sharing service - at the most, maybe if you win a big tournament you get like a million RS points to go towards a premium account.

i also doubt that they can deliver on their promise of 100,000 new players, but any kind of new player population is going to be significant at this point. just understand that these new players will all be complete beginners, and won't be getting competitive for at least a year or two

also keep in mind that should they take over, the game will become wildly different. the players won't have so much control any more, we might not get to run things like twl, twdt, etc, but are instead "relegated" to play in their hosted tournaments in their special zones. it's likely that current staff would be retained to continue what they've been doing, but the guidelines of their responsibilities conduct and whatnot would be revamped.

if subspace was still in its heyday, i'd say no, but at its advanced, crippled age, i'd say we're due for a massive change. go for it!

it will probably be free to play IF you have a rapidshare account or some crap. If they were preparing to clone it and are a profit run site i doubt they are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts but maybe i'm being to cynical

why out of the blue would they offer to host something that costs money for free, say they were going to clone it if they can't get the legal rights etc ... doesn't sound that promising to me

the game desperately needs new blood but at what cost? i'm not sure how to answer that

Awesome! I hope they work it out. New players is what Subspace needs.

If this works, it would mean a massive boost to the playerbase and community. I hope their motives are right - I wouldn't want to see subspace turn into something commercial, or some horrible MMOG.

Heard about this a few weeks ago somewhere.. Interesting, but I don't know how well it'll work out. Worth a try if nothing as we're dead soon otherwise.
