  • Changing the spider would be a good idea but that would change TW too much for most players. It is a little too powerful in basing.

TWLB games have a 8 player limit and the optimal lineup IMO would be one of each ship, some squads playing with 2 of one ship or another. So basically every ship would have to be useful in some way.

    • I think TK has a very good point about the spiders, maybe the limit or an adjustment would make things very interesting.

        • Ok, I haven't done twdd basing much, but all I can say I find it boring. Why? Because too many spiders, and I don't have much fun with spiders.

Spiders are great at killing wbs, lancasters, javs.... but they suck when you have to kill terriers.

Now the terrier is a key ship in basing, obviously..... I find the best ships to kill terrier is Warbird and Lancaster. Unfortunately, these ships aren't use often in twdd basing matches. In my last basing match, I was forced to take a spider.... although I'd much rather use a warbird or lancaster.

I have been experimenting with the lancaster, it is now my 2nd fav ship.....it is actually better than WB in lowerbase at killing spiders and terriers. Also the lancaster is one ship that tends to piss people off the most for some funny reason..heh.. especially those ego centric wb pilots..heh..

Yep, spiders are cool, but not that cool, and they are overused in basing.

That is the main reason I enjoy public arena basing as opposed to twdd basing. Maybe they should have upto 15v15 twdd basing, that would be fun. Yeah, from 5v5 to 15v15 basing, but each squad must obviously have the same #....
Or have 2 squads (alliances) versus 2 squads.... basically SQUAD only public basing rules...

It is always fun to experiment and try out new stuff; to not do so leads to stagnation ---> boredom....

First of all, most basing is 8v8. 2nd of all, if you pit 4 spiders against 4 lancs, the spiders should in theory not even allow the lancs to fire. Lancs have slow recharge, slow bullets that are easily repped. They're also a lot slower to maneuver than any other of the basing ships. Lancs are just no good against a traditional lineup.

You really should study basing more to give a good argument for a change in lineup. By the way, twdd= trench wars dueling division, which isn't the same as twbd = trenchwars basing division
              Ну вот...

Yesterday there was a game in ?go base of two spiders and 3 lancs. In fact the lanc's beat the pure spider team. Then there was a game of all jav's.

                    • It's true, the lanc team beat the spiders (we had one jav to help break the cram). It was a close game though, and the spiders should have won.

Okay, it's only one go base game and maybe the other freq was all newbies (I don't remember who they were and I don't think anyone is going to fess up to losing to lancs). So I propose you TWLB squads try out the next great lineup in your TWD games. Think about it. Owning a squad in all lancs. You know you want to try something different. Well, this is different. And you will be laughing the entire game, esp when you win.

                      • Learn to play a ship other than spider. Don't waste your time in ?go base if all you get to do is spider. You might notice that altough the other ships are harder to handle, they still have their advantages when you know how the ship works.

I believe 5 spiders is still the best lineup to play with, but when you would have a real jav things might change.
Too bad most 'javs' nowadays are people with big egos. Some think that suicide rocketing mixed with some lag makes them a good jav. Just because most freqs in ?go base don't play as a team you might get away with it.

                            • 5 spiders is definitely the best. if you don't play 5 spiders, you'll lose for sure.

                              • I only read the first part... but all of the people who are saying that lining sucks are wrong/newbies. The power of the spider line doesnt come from the spiders or the terr or the shark, it comes from the jav. When you line, 3-4 spiders keep the fort down by not letting anyone in... when the other team starts coming up, thats where the jav comes in. The original rocket jav shot *IS* the ultimate jav shot for this reason... its more or less un-reppable if the jav is good enough. The time from rocket->impact is less than the cool down time between reps. So, the only way to combat it is for both sharks to use 2 reps (jav wont start shot after 1st rep). That makes the attacking team use 2 reps to stop >1< jav. The thing is that the jav can shoot BEFORE the other team gets into the choke point, making it even worse for the attacking team since they'll be down 1-2 reps without even facing the spiders. Also, this requires one of the sharks to keep an eye on the jav and save a rep for him. Did I mention that the jav can also shoot from down below to force the attackers into the spider line or make the sharks waste a rep? Or how about the rocket side shots that kill most of the spiders in the choke point? Remember... this is all just one jav.

The theoretically perfect defensive line is the 4 spider 2 jav 1 shark 1 terr line. 2 properly synchronized javs can pound the jav shot over and over and over making getting up to the choke point a pain for the sharks, who will then have to face 4 spiders. The shark doesnt even have to do anything on defense, maybe just sit at flag and rep...

Oh well, who am I to talk right? Go newbie base tactics.
