I think thats a good explanation to the word, but it also kinda supports the meaning "ignorant prson". If black people were called ni**ers because they're from Nigeria, they would get offended (since they dont know their ancestors are from Nigeria) and that would justify calling them ignorant.

Ara hit it right on with the second part of his post: the word n***** and all forms of it are almost certainly derived from the Latin 'niger,' meaning black. Don't believe me?

Back to your point, which was that black people are called n*****s because they're from Nigeria is outright stupid. The area of what are now the countries of Niger and Nigeria most likely received its name because the people FROM there were black, a direct dirivitive from Latin, since it was primarily Spanish and Portuguese explorers who ventured along the west coast of Africa and eventually rounded the Cape of Good hope. Spain and Portugal were both predominatly Catholic nations- and what was the language used by the Catholic church? LATIN! How about them apples?
