how the hell did this many ppl vote for this poll?
I didn't vote yet (trying to be like kevin costner in swing vote) but these numbers seem unrealistic given the circumstances;
1) Do we even show that many ppl to tw (total number of ppl who voted)
2) How many of em are pubbers?
a) how many of those pubbers play twd?
b) how many of those pubbers actually know a forum exists let alone visit them regularly?
3) how many licks does it take to get to the center of ilyaz's tootsiepop?
4) how many ppl voted on an alias?
a) how many ppl voted and posted in this thread
srsly you cant do this illegally or you will force those ppl who exist and voted to not play this game anymore for playing old school nazi rules.
try this, change your in-game name and tell no one who you really are...
Play a pub for a while, fly some ships you don’t usually play. Try team killing once or twice, don’t be an ass but try to emulate what a new player might do. See how you get treated.
Go into ?Go Base and sit in spec (since no one will pick you) until you might get lucky and get picked because the arena is not full. As game gets going deal with the insults hurled at you, see what happens if you ask a question like 'what is a flag jupe'. Deal with being subbed for some 'vet' as soon as they enter arena, whether or not that player is afk or not.
Try some other arenas or events under your unknown name. Interact with staff, other players, see how you get treated. Again don't be a jerk, but do things that someone who knows no better might do. Try to simply get a better understanding of the 'new user experience'.
IMO, the experience sucks and much of it is because of stupidity and arrogance of the other players. Not much that TW can do about this, but it is something that each of US can do. Stop being pricks. Start occasionally helping newer players. Go ahead and try picking a new player in ?Go Base every now and then. When the other ‘vets’ bitch about this tell ask them if winning a ?Go Base game more important than helping TW survive? Squad leaders should be intolerate of squadies who bust on the newer players.
In other words if many of us, like those who enjoy TW and often post in these forums, were to try occasionally helping newer players, the results would be positive. Note to mention that mentoring a new player can sometimes result in a good candidate for your squad.
But of course this would be work, it is a LOT easier being bitchy drama queens and tossing criticisms from the anonymity of cyberspace.
(Apologies to the few vets/players who do try to promote sportsmanship and treat other the way they would like to be treated.)
This won't pass, I am pretty sure about that. There are plenty of better ideas, such as a tutorial arena, that should be implented rather than this.
I don't understand why everyone wants a tutorial arena. We had the offline tutorial back on the old subspace client. It got removed by Priitk. It wouldn't do much of anything unless it was offline.
RaCka> imagine standing out as a retard on subspace
RaCka> mad impressive

no, this is one time where our bots might come in rather handy
I know we all will agree on this: First things first and thats getting the server/ bots stable again before we decide to do any change to the bots.
After alot of post responces, private messages, and ?messages and talks in general chat a decision has not been made on the right way to go about this..
This poll has gone back & forth quite a few times, Part of the reason i've left it going for so long is because its been so close and to give the once a month logon people a chance to vote. The other part was for more ideas, and there have also been a few, some good some bad. Good Example reavers idea. All in all we dont believe there is one true winner, But clearly a need for more discusion where we can satisify a greater majority of the population. What that might take to accomplish needs to be discussed, but we are hopeful a solution can be agreed upon. One good thing this poll has done is open the eyes on both sides of the fence that there might be a need for some kind of change, finding it maybe the tricky part.
Yes, There were a few poll discrepances but few and far between. (One guy voted both ways, i wish he would of just came to me and asked to change his vote) overall alot of people have voted (new & old), Thankyou for doing so. Its one of the hardest things to get people to do at times. Will we post who voted what? No, never.. There's no reason to list who voted what if they dont want to respond to the post, its there decision.
Will we check for discrepancies? of course.
As for a tutorial , Im for it. It's finding someone with time and the know how, and willing to do it. I think there was some work done on this, before. What happened or where it was left off im not sure, i'll try an look into it.
Advertising in public is also a thought. We also need more captains to do there part, by finding these people and introducing them to twd. Maybe we should look into someway of trying to find these people easier, a list of people not registered with twdbot/not on squad? if that is even possible? Or maybe advertise and have a link to squads and captians willing to give them a shot.
Final thoughts , If you have an idea please contact me or make a post about it. I'll try an add it into the next discussion which will hopefully be soon.
Good idea at the end there Witness. Make a page on twd.trenchwars.org for the squadless players who are registered to twdbot. Squadless players can enter which ships/leagues they play and be categorized accordingly. Captains can visit the site daily to see if any potential recruits have been recently axed or left their squad. I could immediately see list of all squadless terrs, or sharks, or duelers, etc. An option of not being put on the list could be available, or better yet, not. Otherwise, is it difficult to get stats on a squadless player.
To sum up, a new page where all axed/squad-leaving players get dumped into a list, from which they can add their name to ship/league specific lists by selecting options from a list. Put appropriate ship icon next to their ship.
And a final thought on the roster limit idea: sucks to be on one of the new squads formed from the 5 worst/most inactive players from all the squads with over 40 players.

To be honest, it would be way too big of a list if you added every single new player that creates a name to Trench Wars, and not useful the slightest bit.
I can guarantee you that a big bunch of those newly created names are in fact new players and if you added all those names that are created on a day to the list then the list of new players would get enormous after two-three weeks.
It would be way better to just add the people that have a name registered in TWD and have logged on to the game in the past month. Introduce TWD to new players and public arenas to increase the list size for potential recruits, and if possible -- show when a player has logged on the last time, for how long time and any other useful statistic that could help with picking up possible recruits.
Tutorial arena is a must have and should be top priority of map developers at the moment. It's a huge project to work on, but if it is done properly it could be extremely rewarding for the zone population. Most players quit after a couple of minutes as they are hopeless when they log on for the first time and have no idea what to do, how to switch arenas, change ships et cetera.
post scriptum: I shouldn't type anything in the mornings.. wonder if all that made any sense at all.. too lazy to check!

Went thru this pretty fast, might be mistakes i just did a pretty basic search on names.
Maybe contunue later after work.
yeah most of the newplayers that logged into tw once are useless but then there might be ones like 3 Feb, 13:16 NeuralVibe 41 4 4 107 628 - not registerd- not a new player that could be. =/ of course maybe his name reset. and just hasnt found a squad. err. anyway just trying to shed some light.
Even if we did registered players it would probably have to go with lastlogged in, or who's online now- if possible (or like you were saying) depends on how big it is i guess. im guessing the list would be pretty big. And it will contain, some old alaises that were never reset, or someone else now owns the name and doesnt realize its registered.

In my other zone (metalgearctf) we had an official "Agent Free Topic" where players that were not on any league squads could go and signup for one on the forums. Green auto zone messages where always showed for every couple minutes in game on where and how to signup to join a squad.. I think we could use a topic of the list of people (new and old) to help get them on an active running twd squadron.
