This thread kinda died, no new news about how the resolution change has magically increased the number of players playing TW by 25% or anything, just sorta wanted to hear from Stabwound now that the poll continually sides with no even after the change was made with some of the votes being cast after the fact.

I don't get the 'this game was designed for ... resolution'-argument. The warbird settings in TW are similar or equal to the original VIE settings. And the VIE settings didn't have a resolution limit, as far as I know.

I remember playing Amateur League in 1600x1200 (on a 40kg/90pounds 21" iiyama crt, around 1997). Amateur League was a 4vs4 wb competition, much like TWDD/TWLD.

TW introduced resolution limits, I think. Dunno why exactly, but I would be happy to see them gone, or at least to be up-to-date.

I am very against changing resolutions. I have a widescreen computer and I play full screen: NO STRETCHING. The reason it's stretching is because of your own display settings.

Not only that, but everyone who is arguing higher res limits will add to this game let's be 100% honest. Having a 1900 res vs. a 1280 res is not going to DRAW more ppl to this game. If anything, it's gonna piss of the ppl who feel disadvantaged to QUIT. Nobody is going to come play this game b/c the res is higher now but ppl WILL leave if you make the res limits higher.

Voted yes a while back, this game is boring with the same players and same strategies so maybe a res change will spice things up.

I checked the players who have played the most TWDD games on the TWD site, out of the top 60, 42 were playing on 1280/1440 or under since the res limit was lifted, 8 are playing on higher than 1280/1440 since the res limit was lifted, and 10 hadn't played since it was lifted. So that's 8 out of 50 or 16%. I don't think 16% of people using high resolution is going to really effect game strategies other than giving these few people a competitive advantage over everyone else.

...TWDD and TWJD are now 1920x1440. I don't think anyone even uses 1920x1440 but Witness insisted on that, so whatever. ...

Now this 1440 got me confused for a couple of days. But I think I solved it: now you can play pixel perfect 1440x1080 in 4:3 portrait mode.

Stab, I agree with you. I think these days a lot of people have bigger monitors. So, it's pointless to still use the same old small res when other zones allow you to use bigger res. Another neat thing about adding bigger resolution, in my opinion, it will add more interest to the game. Maybe some new players will actually start playing better and stick around more due to that fact.

I think the opposite will happen, if people lose simply because their opponents have bigger resolutions, or even if they are winning because of this, it cheapens the competitive aspect of the game and people who play this game because they enjoy the competition will lose interest. I mean if it's only TWD and not TWL it doesn't matter so much, but if you're not doing it in TWL then what's the point of doing it in TWD? I don't see new players flocking to other zones without a resolution limit, so I find it extremely doubtful it's going to have that effect here.

IMO the advantage is small at best in TWDD. With the largest allowed cross sectional res (1920) you can see +240 pixels per side compared to 1440x1024. I.e you have a fraction of a second more time to see incoming strays/react, which is a very small advantage.
Also, you can keep about 200 pixels more distance in a "long range" fight, which is still not a massive difference.

vertically, it depends on the res, ive got 1920x1080, which means you have a + 28 pixels per side, which equates to a thousandth of a second more time when it comes to strays etc. 1920x1440 would give slightly more of an advantage.

Disadvantages compared to 1280x1024 or 1440x1024 is the "size" of your real estate if you will, everything is smaller, and close range kills are a bitch and a half compared to 1280x1024 especially.

Summa sumarum, if you are against a player with a massive res, play up/down, vs left/right and get in closer :P

In Javs I can't say it has much of an advantage either, More of a disadvantage IMO. Close range shots are harder with a larger res, as are "trick shots". Shots that I used to make 24/7 with 1280x1024 i make maybe 3/10 times now.

Same thing for base, hitting specific shots in basebird or basejav are harder, and spidering in general is imo a bit harder. terring doesn't seem to have much of a difference one way or the other.
