Well... it's the internet.. Did you really expect the flammers and idiots to pass this thread by? Some people will lower the discussion to shit, but to discount the few who have actually taken both sides into consideration and are being unbias here because some people would rather turn this into a flame war or a Euro Vs. World sort of thing is not right.
You obviously have NO FUCKING IDEA what my posts were about. You're the one lowering this discussion to shit.

rip, i have no idea wtf you said

Just found this thread. Some interesting things were said by all.
1) TWL has previously been postponed during the 4th of July holiday (which usually coincides on the same weekend with Canada Day - July 1st in Canada) because of staff problems. When so many staff were going to be away, it became impractical as it would be impossible to host the league effectively anyway. I don't believe ever since season 6 anyone has actually cared about various holidays which did not affect staff turnout that have happened because everyone in the world celebrates something every weekend and we'd never get anywhere postponing things.
2) Disq brings up a good point. Perhaps we should have a way to add in postponements into the leauge for 1 game only if both squads agree. But I ask how effective would such a thing be? Consider the following:
a) How many of you out there have actually scheduled games before? Squad captains are the most uncomprimising people around. Even if they know that they might be hurt by whatever holiday as well, if they know that they can at least get some sort of advantage over you: i.e. if -F- plays without having Sika and Domi show up and squad B loses Finman1 and Finman2 squad B will reject it because it's overall good for them!
b) During a season a squad finds TWO seperate occasions where they need to postpone. Will they just bitch and whine until they can get two occasions now? Where does it end?
c) Even if both squads agree think of the other factors. Any one squad could potentially have up to 10 postponed games in a single league in a single week (if all the other squads postpone and they accept). No one would honestly make them play all of that in the same weekend, so we'd stretch league longer and longer. Now what if one of those makeup weeks was better for a squad than another? Do they start petitioning again for a new week?
d) Every season there are delays because of bot failures or because of lag. It WILL happen. So even if the postponement week was scheduled for a particular weekend but was delayed due to bot failure and that screws over one squad yet again, do they petition again? What if the other squad now does not agree? This WILL happen.
Now I'm not saying that there will be no chance that both squads would agree and that we shouldn't listen when reasonable people come to a conclusion. BUT what I AM saying is that the actual will to have a 'fair game' is very low out there when you know you can screw over the other squad so easily. Adding in a system of delays may appear to be good, but if there are further problems, it can either drag on the league longer and longer for all (if postponements are postponed and so on) or it can further aggrivate players later on down the line to no end. At some point you need to balance what's good for the league (having a coherent weekly structure and having it finish in timely fashion) and what's good for a single squad.
3) As others have said, it is too late to ask for something like this now. There has been literally months and months where rule changes were asked for and could have been requested. Honestly, not every situation can be figured out, but if we start changing rules midseason what effects will this have? What if we changed a rule in week 4, and now squads who played week 1-3 were complaining? Do we just replay the league? You should never change the rules mid-season, but this can be something that can be debated for next season no doubt.
4) Having games during the weekdays as Genes suggests isn't the best idea for a number of reasons:
a) It's hard to find staff on every day at every time to host. It's hard enough to find people to host on weekends. As well as hosting, you need to keep in mind that whenever games are happening, it's always good to have a TWL OP around in case anything happens out of the ordinary. Refs do not have the authority nor are they usually familiar enough with it all to make calls if things go wrong. TWL Ops can't be around 24/7, they already give up their weekends for the league.
b) The reason why all the games are on the weekend is the same reason as having them all in TW and not in a seperate zone (as happened during TWL Seasons 1-4). This is simply for access. As American football does so well, having only games on the weekend (or Monday for football) does the job of focusing everyone's attention for a certain day. If we had a much scattered schedule, then it would be hard to keep track and to keep momentum and interest going in a league. This is a psychological thing and I truly believe having weekend games only is the way to go for the good of interest in the league. Besides if no one watches bad squads play now, why would they watch them on a Thursday?
c) It would wreck havok for predictions and TWLM which so many people enjoy. Sure you could do it earlier, but the more time the better if we want more people doing these things. The more people who do them, the more fun it is, and the more interest there is in the league.
d) If people so very rarely accept Saturday games now, who's going to accept a Thursday game? Sure it may happen once in a blue moon, but who cares. There's no reason to add pointless complexity to the league so that one game in 100 can be on a Thursday.
e) Scheduling tactics. Current rules say, pick a time inbetween the two times. People will definately use an increased time margin for scheduling tactics to screw over the other squad. It will happen, and it will cause huge headaches for Nethila because what exactly is the common ground between Thursday and Sunday?Last edited by Epinephrine; 05-05-2006, 12:06 PM.Epinephrine's History of Trench Wars:
