I actually think raizin's idea is pretty fucking good. We should implement it right away. Although, switch AML to saturday and TWL to sunday.

If you have a AML and give the "non-premier" squads something to look foward too, they will show up.
Saturdays zoners:
TWLD1 Thunder vs Stray
TWLD2 Pirates vs Heavy....
then Sundays
AML1 NC17 vs Rejected Basers
AML2 Rape vs Serenity
With all the new staff hosting WW3 on tuesday nights, i really dont think there is a shortage of people reffing these matches.
People will show up. Its something to look foward to. Someone earlier said zone population is dying, well maybe its because people know they will never get on the premier squads, never compete in a big tournament, and lose interest in this game. The only squads really being rewarded are people playing 3/12 months of the year. At least a AML would give the rest of us something to talk about and look foward to since we play 12/12 months.

I will not deny that the idea of a successful AML is a good idea for the zone. Unfortunately, Trench Wars (and this game as a whole) is on the decline. I think we can all agree on that. If this was 2003/2004, I'd say hell yeah, make TWL 8 squads and make an AML. That was when our zone population was a steady 500-ish.
Exalt: Just because a squad says it would be interested in participating in an AML doesn't mean that they would be successful in doing so. I am telling you right now, the zone does not have the population to sustain both of these leagues right now, considering a lot of our current population are pubbers who are completely clueless to the ongoings around them (besides pub).
we DO have the population to support it mainly because the majority of TWD squads are not in TWL
and they DO know how to run a squad, because they are all in TWD, and run them just fine there, and TWL is no different except to say "hey guys show up at so and so time on this day of the week"
you are full of it and really im sick of you trying to prove everyone wrong with the idea, YES we have the population for it YES they want it and YES we should have it, simple as thatRaCka> imagine standing out as a retard on subspace
RaCka> mad impressive

One thing that an 'AML' would not address is probably the thing that has made the last few TWLs terrible (besides head TWL ops) and that is squads dissolving. What would you do with squads that dissolve in TWL? Replace them with the top squad thats in AML? Well that defeats the whole system...give their next opponents forfeits? even better...or take the highest ranked non league squad to replace them? we dont have enough squads for this. Warks system is still the best, even though I would revise it myselfI'm just a middle-aged, middle-eastern camel herdin' man

Dreamwin, I'd love to see it just happen this season, right away, but that's never going to happen. Staff has their hands real full right now. With RoboQueen, and apparently Robo Ref both gone, and no way to contact Priitk? tourny still looks fucked, and I don't know what's happening with TWEL Seasons 5/6? Throw in all the other things staff is doing, no way in hell they have the time or resources to do an AML this season.7:Knockers> how'd you do it Paul?

Yes, TWL needs to be more competitive, but what you end up eliminating are the middle tier squads that can contend at a High level that you expect at TWL. They may be more inconsistent over the course of 10 weeks but they will gain a lot of experience.
As a captain for a squad many will maintain is one of those middle-tier squads, we've managed to qualify for the last two TWLs (the first one, being the last possible team invited to twl) and we've been competitive enough to make the playoffs, which meant a top 8 and a top 6 showing.
While being able to do so we also attempt to train newer players to get into basing. These trainees take up about half of our roster, and since we have qualified for TWL these newer players get the experience of being a part of a TWL squad and participating in competition that is TWL caliber. It is a very slow process, but we have been able to get two or three players every season to breakout and be able to compete at the TWL level.
As a result we've had many of these newer players step up and compete at that high TWL level. Also many of my squadmates who are good enough to start for many TWLB squads stay here to play on an active team that can compete in TWL, and at the same time help to continue training new players to get into the basing scene.
However, because of the way we structure the squad to cater to both newer players and older players, it's much more difficult when mixing the lineups in twd to qualify for twl, but our core players when together at a set time (like TWL sundays) can compete at this said 'High 8 squad twl level'. We've seen other mid-tier squads that has done well unexpectedly in the past years, like plade did last season in TWLB. I'm sure you guys can think of other squads that were surprises. With disappointments and dissolvings there are also a fair share of surprises, which many people tend to overlook.
So what happens when a mid-tier squad like us doesn't make TWL? the better players will leave to a TWL squad so they can play in TWL, and there's no interest from any of them to play in an AML when they know they can play in TWL. So unless one of us decides to stay back and help the 'newer' players while sacrificing their ability to play TWL, the squad won't stay afloat. We've seen that happen a lot in the past when squads fail to make TWL, and that was with 10/12/16 squads. Imagine how many more mid-tier squads will fall and dissolve when there are 8 squads.

So our first match vs Spastic, everyone was saying we'd loose with less than 30 seconds of flag time. If I remember correctly, ray j was in terr, Tyrome and X Japan were in sharks (i didn't shark then :P ) I was in spider as Escales Dante, with guys like Deverse, Skynyrd, pavement, I can't quite recall who else played forgive me, maybe Send? Death3D was a base bird for us.
Point being this. When all these players joined Defiancy, I lived online. We played 5s, 6s, base whenever we could. We sucked, but over time, the practice got us going. We got 5 or 6 minutes against spastic, and put up what most of the community decided was a respectable fight. A forum post was made, people were shocked, and gladly surprised that we actually knew how to base, and decently.
Half- 2/3s of Defiancys short lived, 3 or 4 week TWL stint, are now pro basers. Split among top squads, I alone most likely know all their alaises. Maybe jerome or some other X members know em all. The point is simple. We were all newbie basers - we got 4 replacement weeks in TWL, and BAM you've got easily a dozen pro basers added to the game.
Why the hell can't people understand this? I'll tell ya why. Too few vets make squads, and let newer players on. I can personally say in my time captaining, I've helped train, and bring at least 30-50 different players to a higher level of playing in basing and warbirds. Just like guys like Nessy, Commodore Pickle and DieWing did for me. If you don't let these new people have TWL time, if you won't care enough about the community to let people in, help them, train them. Then stfu about the population decline. You have no right to bitch if you just sit on a top squad and come around a few months a year to play TWL. Take an active role in the community, or keep complaints to yourselves. This has ALWAYS, and remains, my greatest pet peeve about this game. If you don't help the community, or the population in anyway, you don't matter when it comes to deciding on how things work - other than a simple opinion based on your length of play.7:Knockers> how'd you do it Paul?
