I'll make sure to use 1440x1024 res then with my geforce graphics card just to spite the you since you allow those fucking newbies with widescreen monitors to use 1440x900 res. It gives them an unfair advantage in LD and DDs horizontally. Since you want to cater to whiners with widescreen monitors then I will cater to myself with a nvidia card.

With one fixed limit you give everyone the chance to be on the same starting line, which I thought was the point in having a resolution limit. This obviously will not be the case with two different maximum resolutions as they both have different advantages. If you are going to change it at least use the next standard display resolution and not some weird combination of resolutions or several different ones. 1280x1024 has been used for years and there was nothing wrong with it. If someone is unable to use the maximum they should really look into upgrading their hardware instead of expecting TW to suddenly cater for their specific needs.

DIdnt read the full thing, but there should of never been a res limit, nor should there be one yet... most zones atleast that i played outside of TW never implimented any res limits of any kind, yet here we have one, not sure why.. u want a bigger res then get a bigger monitor.. Its basicaly the same as lag or any kind of thing that can give 1 player a certain "advantage"

you know, if we really really want to go down this road, the only thing that should be argued about is allowing twlj to use 1400 res or not. but I dont care enough. none of these 1400 users are good warbirds anyway, and even if they were it would not be because of the resolution. the arguement that tw needs to get out of the dark age is pretty terrible, considering that, 1600 res should be the least possible resolution implemented. on another note: what's the standard resolution for hd-tv anyway? 1280x720 and 1920x1080?

what does hd-tv have to do with subspace? absolutely nothing?

as for your old laptop, that is relevant how? my 8 year old computer can do 1920x1440. it still isn't relevant to the question at hand, which in effect was the "handicapping" of people with widescreen LCD's. (which, like it or not, are pretty much standard nowadays over CRT's or 4:3 aspect ratio LCD's)

Most widescreen LCD's will have a native res of either 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

Now I apprecciate that 1440x900 will be allowed for TWL, I really do. It should eliminate the godawful stretching that occurs with 1280x1024.

I thank ph for the change, although it's pretty retarded to see all the whiny idiots step in as ANY change is made.

I still think playing on 1440x900 is terrible and I would prefer to play on 1280x1024 any day, and that is why I will grab my roommate's laptop to do 1280x1024 windowed, because I keep dying to whatever is fired vertically and meant to hit, not to mention my radar aim is more horrible than it used to be because the screen is a rectangle. If i had a choice, I would simply prefer to play on a perfect square so that the screen reflects the radar. Since 1280x1024 is a better estimation of that vision. Also, 1280 horizontally gives you more than enough time to dodge any non-bounce-off-rock-vys-like-lagshot, 1440 makes you only see slightly more arena that you really do not need to see. What happens at 45degrees and higher angles is much more of a concern regularly.

For those that can do both resolutions (at least one of them windowed), make few series of tests. Say, play 10 dds on each and try to compare your total stats, focusing on your personal performance. Then make conclusions on your own. I made mine. Do not cry unless you do so.
